did you have any problems with it kicking your client back saying it needed to be patched? I am running into that now and it does not do it online.

when you say int ip and ext ip you do mean your network ip for the int and your modem ip for the ext right?

Being able to login through the lan but not external IP is usually an issue of not port forwarding, or not port forwarding correctly

if your using a modem with an internal router, then a home router you need to

port forward from your modem and point to the IP of your home router, then your home router points to the machine on the network that is your EQ server.

I saved myself the step and just attached the server to the modem( + internal router ), which makes me unable to connect via lan, but also means if the eq server gets hacked they are not inside my home network.

I have the machine connected to the modem( + internal router ) so are you saying I would better off having my home network connected to another router connected to my modem( + internal router )? would that mean my data is counted twice when my ISP reads it as a download and upload? Would this make it so my server shows up in my list?

Your data wouldn't be counted twice, as it should only get counted either from the modem, or based on data sent to/from the IP they have assigned you.

It's not necessarily better but it makes me 'feel' like i'm more secure.

your problem seems to me like its a port forwarding issue.

I forwarded the ports 7000 - 7100 and 9000 then 9998 - 9999
would that be all of them?

still not able to see the server after I log into the server select screen. I am wondering if it is my modem and if changing to a router will work. atm I am setting it up so that if I lose internet I can still play.

Did you forward both UDP and TCP ports?
