Please excuse me for anything stupid I say :?
When i started EQEmu a couple of weeks ago I only played on 5.0 but it is really dodgy and people on these forums talk about 4.4 and it sounds better that 5.0 is at the moment so how do I connect to 4.4 servers?

You go back in time and download the patch that SOE offered in December of last year. Barring that, you can't play on 4.4.
