View Full Version : Anniversary Edition Support

Looks like the code has support for the Eq Anniversary Edition , which runs for around 19.00 too.
So now I would at least hope to see new whiners with a new rant: "Why do I have to spend 19.00 on another EQ game called Anniversary Edition?"

Thats just bull, so your telling me I have to go get Aniversary now. Thats $20.00 you know. Geez, this project is just getting worse and worse as the days go by. So now we got even more content and features, and even more support for a newer userbase which means more players. What a f'n joke.

/end Sarcasm

Ok, now on to my real post. WOOT WOOT for Aniversary if this is true. Can you confirm this Angelox, with a Aniversary client. If so, I would assume that its still backwards compatible with Titanium, which is very grovvy baby.

Thanks devs, maybe we will see some more migrants and newer players.

It's not officially in the log yet, but I found the new patch_Anniversary.conf in the source and the new executables need this conf file.
I'll buy the Anniversary Edition just to have it :)

Is that the latest, latest bundle - with tBS too? I'll have to go check it out. I'll buy it just because I am a content freak.

Just answered my own question:
EverQuest The Anniversary Edition Includes EverQuest Classic and all EverQuest expansion packs including "The Buried Sea".

Not fully supported yet, can get to char select but crash on zone in from what I gathered. FNW started work on it the other day.

Wouldn't go out and buy it just yet =p

From what I have been reading it has buried sea and the drakken thing so it is my guess it is the new bundle. I am shocked at the price being so low lol.

Already bought the Anni Edition. Tried running it without live patch but could not create a character.

Same here, I bought the last copy of EQ Anniversary at the local GameStop, and if eqgame.exe doesn't crash abruptly when connecting and I make it to char creation, it doesn't do anything when I click Create Character..

Guess I'll just have to wait it out.. Thanks guys, it'll be awesome when I can play :)

John Adams

They'll get it, I'm sure. The fact there is any work being done for a new base client is very exciting. This means the new zones and revamps will be supported, and I have collects for nearly all the revamps before SEQ broke again :(

FatherNitWit has been working on this, and its nowhere near playable atm. We don't have many logs for anniversary edition to go off of, so its a bit harder to find out everything we need.

With that being said, if you DO have logs between the dates of 2/13/07 to 3/14/07 get a hold of me or FNW.

IMO, I think we should focus on getting all the features supported concerning titanium and the expansions it provides before jumping to a new client that provides what 2 or 3 expansions after depths of darkhallow.. and peq is currently on planes of power release. I would wait. New anniversary editions are always being released, and you could always support a new edition. But its seems stupid to start supporting every anniversary edition that pops up, when they are only supporting a few new expansions. We loose more than we gain. The amount of time wasted on getting the new anniversary client to work (and im talking all opcodes, aa's, etc) could be better spent getting titanium as close to 100% supported first. Whats missing from titanium currently well.. in short alot. Heres just a few to name:
----
LDON System
Tasks (referring to quest tasks)
Bandoliers
Leadership Exp Panel
Shrouds
DoN Missions
.... and probably alot more
----

Titanum supports enough of expansions to keep the community busy for awhile. Ofcourse there are probably several people who doubt my thoughts, but you will be just wasting time if you start support for another anniversary client. Focus on the one at hand (Titanium). We can always upgrade to a new client after we get all the expansions supported by Titanium supported by EQEmulator.

problem is, titanium is becoming a "diminishing resource". its not available commercially, and eventually, the ebay copies will run out.

moving to a newer baseline that is stable (assuming the anniversary version is playable "off the disc") is not a bad idea. but its going to take time/effort so we have to be patient.

my only peeve currently is the LS issue.

Might just be he's giving new people arriving to EqEmu a legal way to play again, since Titanium is just about sold out.
I still have access to one of my friends EQ accounts (I think he paid a year and never plays), anyways, someone said the FP boat was running again and it is. Only thing is, it's a much smaller skiff with no visible cabin access, and it got to Freeport in a fraction of the time it used to take (was so fast, I either missed the stop in OOT, or it doesn't at all). They must have made this for the Progression Server players.
I didn't really like the new skiff that much, I always thought the old one looked like something out of a painting.

EDIT:
I was just at www.walmart.com looking for Anniversary and saw they have Titanium for sale again $18.82 - ironically, Anniversary is out of stock but Titanium is available.

Personally, I'd like the core engine to support any and all Live content, regardless of what currently does not work. Sure there's tons to fix that could be working now, but if you are not a programmer and cannot make the effort to help, you cannot complain. Period.

I think the Anniversary support is a fantastic step. There are some of us who enjoy new content as well. This is not just about EQ-Ancients.

ArChron

Agree with John Adams... while I like the classic EQ (no PoK books, a CR truly means running, and dying is really something to be avoided) there isn't anything wrong with upping the server to support Anniversary edition. Can't go to the movies one night without blowing the equivalent of $20... To keep new folks coming to the Emu you have to support what your prospective "public" is able to buy in the stores.

On the home server I tend to fiddle around with all the different races/classes. I run Angelox's classic database (Ax's new Froglok home is very cool, and on Live my main is a froglok necro on FV). Opening up other new zones for home play just gives more places to explore.

And that don't last nearly as long baby. :)

I'm not one of those "stingy" penny pinchers who wont go out an buy something like this for $20.00 because I already have Titanium, but I feel that if it was possible to get the client for free (which there are ways, proabably many) this would be much more sucessful, population wise. I use to play on a Ultima Online Emulated server and everyone just downloaded the 15 day trial off of Fileplanet. EqEmu doesn't condone of this type of thing because of legal actions and what not, which I perfectly understand... this was just my opinion thats all. I'm sure others feel the same way.

Damilis

Actually, EQEmu couldn't care less how you get your client files as long as it is by a legal & legit means. Downloading the trilogy of the sony site for use with EQEmu is perfectly acceptable, kosher, legal, etc.... its just that it isnt compatible with EQEmu at the moment ;)

When the devs made the decision to make EQEmu run from a fresh install off a set of disks versus continually chasing EQLive... i jumped for joy! Even if I had to "shell out the $20" for titanium, its still 10000x times better than accidentally patching to live and screwing my ability to play EQEmu for months at a time (aka, the way it USED to be before the coded for Titanium)

...but i suppose that the Devs will never be able to make everyone happy. Bitch about not being able to play EQEmu at all or bitch about having to shell out a one time fee of $20.... *sigh*

Well the differences for eq vs other games are

EQ does not keep a specific DL up for very long, it changes daily most times.

EQ does not allow other sites to host there patches (WOW) so back patching is then illegal

Because of the way SOE does business in a different way then any other MMO company, they protect themselves hard core compared to most others. Its not about our personal feelings or the way we want tings to be. The decisions are based on whats legal, and on how to keep SOE from closing us down for good.

Our no warez policy and our policy on sending people to buy disk sets, keeps SOE off our backs, because we are breaking no laws.

"Our no warez policy and our policy on sending people to buy disk sets, keeps SOE off our backs, because we are breaking no laws."
Yeah I got that, but I guess I was just stating the obvious that if EQ was like other MMO's in the sense they weren't so hardcore in protecting themselves it'd be much more popular. 8)

I don't know why Sony is so uptight. When EQ 2 was released they should have released all the code for EQ 1. Thats one thing I liked about UO freeservers was the fact that you could patch live. To my knowledge it hasnt effected their playerbase. EQ is almost as old as UO.

CrabClaw
08-03-2007, 05:29 AM
The reason for that is two fold, one is that they are not set up corporate-wise (SoE has always been $$Profit/damn the quality) to do that, and there is also an issue of copyrights to the code base. Parts of the code are owned by a couple different companies so the legal nightmare of getting the GPL-like releases from all them would not be worth it to them.

EQ, in its smoky, stained carpet, casino-addict filled state, is still making money for them as well. You want a GPL-style mmo, it would be far less trouble to start a open source project and start re-building your own engine. (This is my goal in the long-long term - from what I learn here and with other projects.)

This leads me to question number two: How is the Anniversary Edition Support coming? Has anyone got it to work? It can log into character select but get unhandled opcodes when I try to log in and/or try to create a new character. I was just wondering if I did something wrong or is AE support still in an un-working stase?

It can log into character select but get unhandled opcodes when I try to log in and/or try to create a new character.
What I have been trying (and sometimes it even works!) is if I get an unhandled OpCode in a particular function (like OP_AdventureRequest for a recent example), I would open my patch_Titanium.conf file, find that OP entry, and change the 0x0000 to what my zone log showed was invalid. In this case, 0x43fd. Now, magically, when I click the Request Advenure button in the client I no longer get invalid opcodes and the server/client respond properly. This only works, of course, if there is code to handle the OpCode in question (I believe...) so if it's some completely new functionality, yeah it won't work.

Not sure where they got the opcodes for Anniversary Edition already, unless it is a mere copy of another one and they plan to change it as things show up invalid? But you might start there, CC... Find this "OP_CharacterCreate=" in your patch_Anniversary.conf (currently appears to be 0x0000 or "off"), change the code to matche what is being thrown in your logs as invalid.

I could be totally talking out my ass, and I am sure there are TONS more to compatibility than this, but it's something you can play with in the meantime to keep you out of trouble. ;) If I had AE, I would help troubleshoot it. I'd love to start using a new client.

Long ago, I found one having to do with AA's by trial and error. I hadn't messed with it much til starting the LDoN work, which the above Opcode is all I have discovered so far. Since I do not understand how to read packet data, if the server doesn't throw an error that the opcode was 'wrong' for a certain action, I cannot magically fix it by using the right opcode (which was this case; was 0x0000, the server wanted 0x43fd, so I just had to tell titanium.conf to use that instead of 0.

It's not complicated what I do. I wish I could read and understand packet data.

Some of these zones looks really cool, especially number 381, best looking zone i've seen since ntov.
As for the zone crashing on zone-in. EQ logs says it can't find the zone files so i guess soe reserved these IDs for future revamp ? Btw to me freeport revamp is horrible... i can't get why they did so many zones just for ONE city, some looks cool, but some looks really useless (militia house for example).
Later i'll try to get the missing zones and make a clean sql of these.

Nice thank you. :)

I did like the new Freeport harbor and main gate, much more EQ2-ish and less Duke Nukem-y, but yes, a bunch of the town is a little haphazard. I also like the Desert of Ro re-do as well.

I wished they wouldn't have wasted their time on buffing such an old game though, I feel the effort would have better been spent rolled into a new game. Sort of an 'EQ the early days' much like EQ for the PS2 was.

We're gonna derail this thread but yeah i agree, why would you want to revamp a zone like misty for example (i've seen on eq website they did it on live) when i guess there's hardly what... a handfull of player zoning there every other day on most server, and they are probably not new players coming there to level. Such a waste of time...

John Adams

Their attempts to 'revamp' are likely to bring newer graphics to their otherwise ancient engine... since there are so many more pretty games out there. People not obsessed with the poly-headed dragons of EQ do not understand, and turn their nose up at the game.

I'm honestly surprised anyone new to MMOs would give Everquest a try, with WoW right there more capable on older machines and 100x better gfx (though a little Disney, imo). Shrug... I love EQ gfx, no matter how old they are. It's all about the nostalgia for me.

Well, I just hate it when they only do a few here and there. Like having lavastorm and nekrulos be new but surrounded by the old zones just makes them look like what they are: bolted on and half-a$$.

IF they want to revamp zones, then revamp all of them in that expansion.

If they want to stay more modern (and some zones NEED it... WOW they look like crap by today's standards.. been to Kerra isle lately (for example)? But if they do it, they should do it with the continuity of the world in mind.

Old zone -> new zone -> old zone -> old zone -> new zone (etc.)

gives me whiplash ;)

Do the whole expansion or don't do it at all.

And to keep this thread on topic, or at least provide a feeble attempt to guide it back on... heh... got my copy of Anniversary Edition in the mail today. Think I may install it and see what one can zone into already. And thanks for making that list (so far)! If I discover anything I'll post here so that it will help the SQL along...

Well there are two types of mmo player, those who think mmos are a video game and those tho think mmos are an RPG. I think EQ still could have a lot of appeal to the latter, regardless of the graphics.

EQ1 does have something the other games do not: outrageous amounts of content. No other game comes close in sheer world size, taken as a whole.

Haha guess what ? The new tox zone does include Kerra ridge. ;) Found that out while exploring these new zones... doh.

And you can zone into every single zone listed... except the few listed as crashing on zone-in.

428 : Blacksail Folly ? ? ?
429 : maiden's grave ? ? ?
430 : redfeather isle ? ? ?
431 : the open sea 0 -100 100
432 : the open sea (ok...) 0 -80 50
433 : the open sea (lol ?) -100 80 50
434 : the open sea.... 0 0 50
435 : the open sea 0 -80 50

Can someone who played that expansion explain me why there's 5 zones with just 2 ships in the middle of nothing ?! Cause these are indeed 5 different zones, ships never looks the same.

Isn't that the Burning Sea zones for the ship v. ship adventures? Not 100% sure.

The best two things about TBS is the new katta model and air elementals. They look really good!

I am somewhat of a visual buff myself. My biggest beef is not PC and NPC models, but the zones themselves. I load up emu and zone into NQeynos and I just get disgusted by the ground texurtes of the older zones. Its just those that drive me away as I feel like im walking on a watered down painting smeared to hell and back. I think that EQ could hold alot of promise with a major graphical overhaul, but I dont think the engine is going to support alot of nice features. I know though that it could handle higher res textures, and that alone would make for a super significate improvment. At least for me.

EQ AE is available in the store where I live, but I couldn't wait so purchased Titanium on ebay yesterday. Woohoo ! Looking forward to checking it out this coming week.

After many hours I actually got anniversay edition to work. Only problem was all NPCs and Character models were black. The fix for this was the Titanium rendereffects folder. Other than that I was able to play. If anyone has AE and is wanting to play PM me and i'll help you out anyway I can.

Aneriel I think the issue is getting the right opcodes for the patch_Anniversary.conf file so the Emu will communicate with the client without touching the client. I would rather go that route as I do have a working install of T-Ed. already.

((Anyone find the new loading screen ugly? FV looks high, eeesh...))

My post is really targeted at those without T-Ed, or those that had to order it and couldn't wait until it got in to play.

I ended up buying AE because no one locally had titanium and I *had* to play some classic eq right then (i hate waiting on things). Didn't order Titanium until I figured out i had to have the rendereffects folder to get everything working perfectly.

In the end you want T-Ed installed to play, but if you already bought AE and are impatient like me, there is a work around to get you going until you can get T-Ed up and going.
