Is it possible to revert EQ back to its original release version? Or maybe up to the last patch before Velious? Includes removing the revamps on Paw, Mistmoore, etc. Are they on the original EQ discs? Is there a database w/ the old old old stuff on it?
A friend and I were talking today about how we loved EQ Classic, incl. Kunark and Velious. Even in a progressive tone. We also talked about how Sony has ruined EQ from what it used to be. So I wanted to know if its possible to do what I questioned. I've played on the EQEmu servers and enjoy my times there. But I fiend for what EQ used to be. W/ some improvements, classic EQ would be better than it used to be. We even said original EQ is better than anything out to date, MMO wise. Bold I know, but tell me you don't believe it yet you're still playing :P

Yes, the original zone files should be on the original CDs (assuming they didn't patch them later from live). Project EQ has various database releases of different expansions, so they probably have one for old school eq. You'll still be stuck with the new UI from the titanium/SoF clients unless you make a custom one that looks like the original UI though.
I'm not sure which zones have changed geometry (updated zone files) since the beginning, I don't think they did this very often. I can only think of a couple off hand, like paw/surefall glade when they released that zone connected to them.

Are there any servers that do this currently? I'm having trouble finding them.

Oh hey, I heard about that project a while ago but couldn't find it. I'm looking forward to helping!

There's also EQClassic. It is closed source and will be releasing a database and binaries in the future.

The project statement for EQClassic is no longer to host a server, but instead it is to create serverside code for emulating the game of EverQuest as it was in 2001.
You may want to keep your eyes peeled on it, as I will be making sure there's going to be a way to customize it if we keep with this plan :p

Fail.
There can be only one EQC. Letting anyone host ruins the point of EQC.

I will look forward to that then. My friend and I are long time EQ players, as are our guildmates and we miss it terribly. We went to Paw before they ruined it and wow, dungeon in the middle of nowhere, we could get EXP and some loot and enjoy adventuring. Thats the way it should have stayed. I can't wait and I will continue to support EQ Classic, either by Sony or EQEmu. If Sony ever gets their heads out of their asses then maybe one day we will see our dreams come true.

I wouldn't count on seeing anything from eqclassic.org anytime soon (if ever). This project is at least 2 years old and they've yet to produce any public deliverables. Reading through their dev notes they also seem to be reinventing the wheel instead of learning from and extending EQEmu. That one is a real head scratcher.
