I have been trying to setup my own server and used the guide that is on this forum. I followed everything to a T, but it has you use Perl 5.10 but in reality to load the current EQEMU, you need to have Perl 5.8.

Here are my general issues after following the many guides on the website.

:Perl 58.dll not found on your system (After using Perl 5.10)
:Zone.exe failed to start correctly (My fault most likely)
:perl_hv_common_key_len was not found in perl58.dll

Al this has caused me to not be able to boot zone.exe / world.exe.

I wiped everything and re downloaded the files and am still getting the same errors.

So if anybody can guide me in the right direction, or perhaps create a small tutorial with the basics please.

Thank you,
Vampire

There have been dozens of posts over the perl problem. After awhile it gets confusing. In my experiences there are three different versions of perl that work at different build changes. These versions are:

ActivePerl-5.8.8.822-MSWin32-x86-280952
ActivePerl-5.8.9.826-MSWin32-x86-290470
ActivePerl-5.10.0.1005-MSWin32-x86-290470

Trying to figure out which to use is purely guesswork. Try each one. One of them should work.

OK after having this problem a ton of times myself, this might be helpful. If you are going to be using the pre-compiled downloads online, you want to use 5.8. If you are going to compile the source yourself, then you want to get 5.10.
