~~DISCLAIMER~~
Moderators, please delete this post if you feel it is in violation of any terms or what not. I felt it is perfectly legal and fine since it does not involve any hacks, modifications to existing programs, or other malicious activities and simply uses the Live EQ patcher site directly.
~~END DISCLAIMER~~

As the title says, this will show you how to DL any missing files from the eq live server without the need for an account. This will also work if you just want to update files to live versions without running the normal EQ patcher. The best part about this approach is you only update the files you want to.

1) open a web browser of your choice

2) Insert the following line

http://patch.everquest.com:7000/patch/everquest/en/patch0/main/

3) at the end of that line add the file you want with either no additional extension or with ".gz"

4) If the file is in a folder inside your main EQ folder, make sure to add that folder after the line in step 2 before putting the file name in

5) I recommend saving the files DLed this way into a separate folder as many of them will have to be extracted before you can replace the existing file

~~NOTE~~
It seems ".txt", ".tga", and ".emt" files always have ".gz" after them

".s3d" and ".eqg" files do not seem to use ".gz"

~~EXAMPLES:~~

File without ".gz"
http://patch.everquest.com:7000/patch/everquest/en/patch0/main/dkm_anims.eqg

File with ".gz"
http://patch.everquest.com:7000/patch/everquest/en/patch0/main/dbstr_us.txt.gz

File inside a folder in main EQ folder and with ".gz"
http://patch.everquest.com:7000/patch/everquest/en/patch0/main/uifiles/default/dragitem59.tga.gz

We have discussed allowing this information to be shared on the forums here, but I don't think we have ever came to any solid decision.

I will leave this here (for now) open for debate on whether it is OK to have that info posted here.

Obviously, the main concern would be legal concerns and potential attention from SOE. I personally can't think of any legal issues with it. Though, we try to steer very clear of anything even border-line illegal here to prevent the possibility of EQEmu ever being shut down with a C&D or something.

I totally understand and thus the disclaimer I put up. Which ever you decide is perfectly fine with me. I just stumbled upon that while DLing/updating the steam:underfoot pack last night and watching packet traces from norton security suite.

C&D Can't shut us down. Would have to be a court order.

Since the content itself is on sony's servers, it's legal. No issues.

This may not work much longer. SOE is switching to the new version of their Launchpad sometime in January. The newer patcher uses different paths than these - so it will need to be updated at that time.

Just in case, I suggest grabbing what you need now.

I just tried this for fun, but it didn't work (page not found), but when I
downloaded from Steam, it gave "free" 30 days play time on Sony which
gets activated on new accounts there. So if you start a new account with
Sony, and it's activated, they don't take any funds from your account until
after the free 30 days. (your choice if you want to cancel before that).
So once you have the Steam download backed up on disk, you can always
patch in to live and get all the updated files you need. Your entitled to the
updates with your account :)

LOL, so you are saying you would fight SOE in court if they tried to C&D us? I just don't think I would have the balls to take my risks in a multi-million dollar lawsuit if it was me... Not speaking in regards to this particular thread as I agree it should be perfectly legal. Just speaking in general, that seems like a bold statement lol.

If it's anything like the EQ2X launchpad, it works similar. Just gotta use wireshark for the path names; it uses the same distribution system.

PS: it's already on the new distribution system I believe.
