Someone should recreate the patcher and make it so all the files that are about to be patched are backed up into a temporarily placed folder in your EQ directory.

So then maybe every single fking idiot who can't read a damn post doesn't have to cry about not having EQEMu.

Default A couple solutions.

Someone from around here, if I am not mistaken mentioned about using the "System Restore Point" that is part of Windows Me, Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows .NET. All you have to do, is create a snapshot of your machine before patching in case you mess up, and update. You can restore your settings back to previously.

I have mine setup like this so I can keep one up to date, and the other one for EQEmu Servers.

EQEmu Servers:
C:\Program Files\EverQuest

EverQuest Servers:
C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest Trilogy

I also wrote a program a while ago, that I started to play around with recently, to avoid updating -- simlar to that of EQW, but it uses the original client. Has a few little things here and there, but who knows? Some like it, some don't like it. In case you are interested in it, you can read the following thread at: http://forums.eqemu.net/showthread.p...;threadid=3788

That wasn't really my point. I'm just saying too many newbs crying about the patch and EQEMu not working when they were notified a week in advance.

And also, is it that hard to copy and paste a new folder.

Default Sorry.

I know it's not very hard to copy folders, create folders and such. Some people, and believe me, I know people who don't even know how to access DOS, but they know how to connect to the internet, chat on AIM, AOL, surf the web, etc.. My girlfriend is one of those, but I am teaching her how to use the computer, and how they operate.

With that being said, people should seriously either i) make a seperate copy of EverQuest so they can play exclusively on the EQEmu servers, and a seperate copy exclusively for the EverQuest main servers. This would avoid all heck with the questions, "I am getting a 10060 error!", which I am as of now, just waiting it out to see if the login server is down, before I do anything over here. Or, I keep getting "Incorrect version!", what can I do? etc. Seriously, here are my suggestions (not being mean to anyone, or flaming anyone. So you know, I am not off my rocker.)

1. Before you submit a bug, please, search to see if it has already been submitted.

2. Before asking why you are getting a 10060 error, search for "10060", as with any other error code. You may have to narrow your issue down to be more technical to what you are having. Others may have already submitted this very same error.

3. The developers cannot exactly offer you support, and if they do, that is because they can -- they are busy developing the server itself. And that is why, we have support people here; to help support the server.

4. Before you ask this question, "Where do I get file [a-z]?", check out http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...group_id=41381 for the latest updates and patches, files, databases and such.

5. Before you ask, "How can I multi-task with EverQuest?", normally you cannot. I've written a program that you can find out more information at http://forums.eqemu.net/showthread.p...;threadid=3788 -- This program allows you to use the regular EverQuest client, without having to use EQW or relying on EQW.

6. IF you want to be able to multi-task with EverQuest, than I suggest that you check out http://www.eqwindows.com/ for more information and latest downlods.

7. Don't request warez, spam us for cshome, or other files. They are against the policy of EQEmu.net, and I sure as heck would hate to see this site go down the drain because of this. (this means, copyrighted material, trademark material, patented material, etc.. in electronical form, or any medium.)

8. (my suggestion), if you are going to release code for others, please make sure that it functions close to 100%, or very near. Should you be releasing beta source code and programs (such as my program, EverQuest Game Launcher), please make it clear that it is beta and may have issues, etc.

9. (my request) If you are going to say that you are going to do something, please do it. By saying, "I will do yadayada.", may get people's hopes up, and in turn if you don't deliver, may cause people to be upset, dislike, hate, or even do a #damage 10000000000000000000 on you, to hit you for max-damage.

10. Long live EQEmu and it's fine software. Though it has bugs, heck, my server, database both have bugs. We all have them, but it can only get better. Thanks EQEmu-Devs.

I guess I did fall off my rocker a bit, hehe. Been sitting back having a couple drinks tonight and relaxing. Catch ya all later, and I didn't submit this message as a flame, bash, hate, spam, or otherwise to anyone. Just saying it as a reminder, request, and update to existing messages that image has said, and others.

And Darkyth, I do apologize for not catching what you meant completely. But as far as copying, there are some that do not know how to do it. A lot do, but some to a lot don't. :(

I think the main problem is, - if u missed a time for patching your client installation to a compatible version which is matching to the current eqemu version, you are out or order and did not have any chance to get this compatible client version (also with creating folder, / saving / backuping localy etc.)
Maybe we (or one of us) should provide the eqemu community with an easy "collection" of files which have to copy (and overcopy) to the client directory (and make it this way compatible to the current eqemu version). For creating this solution, isent it enough to cygwin "diff" (whole installation folder) and zip all found diff files? - Did u get it?

Ohh so AwA you want someone to create a warez site to house old EQ files? Because that is what your sugestion comes down to. Backing up your own files isn't that hard, and is legal. Also new versions of EQEmu are out all the time.

VERY simple solution, make a copy of your EQ dir just for connecting to EQEmu. Then only patch it when the emu is updated for the current EQ patch.

@Lurker
you still did not get it, i only want to give a patch-possibility from the current fresh patched eqlive version "back" to a compatible last eqemu-server version. This means only "one" set of diff files are hosted. This is necessary if happen one of the two following cases:
1) eqlive version was really short valid / patchable for having a compatible version to eqemu (like the happening last weekend where only these guys could called themself lucky who patched her version during these 6 hours)
2) one is new to the community, and he is "hot" to have a playable eq-client installtion compatible to eqemu

did u get it now?

of course, all other cases are handable by everybodiies himself (ie backuping local eq client directory etc.)
