Default WTF is going on?

I don't get the current debate in here.

1. They're coding the emu for themselves not you all....they were simply nice enough to let others goof with it.

2. They're setting things up in such a way so they can learn. Which is the Main reason for doing an Emu. Knowledge = Value

3. Relax, enjoy what works while it does.

4. State your opinions but don't flame/complain.

5. Encourage them to keep it open to public.

6. When they demand payment, then flame! Else help out were you can & when.

Disclaimer.....I in no way represent the EQemu staff's opinions!
Nor do I represent the opinions of myself. The facts stated above aren't facts but simply graphical anomalies caused by your crappy video card working in conjunction with Microsoft's Directx over-coded display drivers. Lol

Well, I for one agree with you. The Emu is great... if they need some way of verifying that you are only making one account, then so be it. If people didn't try to break the loose rules that were set up, stricter ones wouldn't be needed. Ah well... keep up the good work, looking forward to the next release! ^_^

Default no complaining

im not quite sure if those first couple of post were complaints or not but these guys at Eqemu are great. Finally, an EQ for people with LIVES. no sitting and camping mobs, no hours trying to gain lvls, and totally free (yeah cause verant just bumped the monthly price to 13$) I cant wait for the emu to come out! I have a question for the dev.: will the installment and setup for the new emu be easy? i had some difficultly with the last one, no prob. though :p keep up the good work.

yours,

I doubt the install for any of the versions are going to get any easier... They are dirt simple to begin with if you ask me.. It takes me less than 5 minutes to set up a server from scratch..

You have to understand something, this is a server project, not a nice pretty point and click and it magically works tool. To be a server admin, I think you have to accept the fact that you are going to have to learn new technologies, and grit your teeth and just learn it, instead of asking for everyone to simplifiy it.

To run your own server correctly, you need to understand a few things at a minimum.

TCP Ports, IP theory
Mysql use (lots of good tutorials on this on the web)
SQL (ditto, good stuff on the web)
How to navigate in commandline mode (DOS)

Then, additionally, to be a worldbuilder you need to understand the actual database content formats (spawngroups, quest formats, etc)

Relying on tools is only going to get you so far.. Running a server is not for the faint of heart.. If you are one of those 'Ima newb, can someone explain this plllllzzzzzzzz' kinda folks, my suggestion would be that you stick to playing on an emulated server rather than running your own.

This is just my 2 cents worth..

Sorry, wasnt meant to be a rant. I've found it funny though that people that can't even use file explorer properly have asked me about how to set up a server. If you dont have the necessary
background, explaining how to use mysql is going to be a real nightmare!

Also, this post is not directed at anyone in particular, so don't think I'm flaming an indivudual..

I have 2 emails set-up on the net, one on hotmail, which i know you say isnt good at this point.. and the other is on www.collegeclub.com . would collegeclub be blocked also? Sorry jus been using the emu since its birth, in a way and would hate to have to cancel using it now. Really need feedback on this.

Don't quote me on any of this but, in time I plan to make a GUI interface so that controling and running the accual EmuServer stuff is easy (and takes up less on the taskbar). But you'll still need to know MySQL and TCP Port Routing (if that needs to be done). Other than that it'll be nice and easy to set up! I might even make a setupwizard if I find the time for it, but remember this project is a LONG WAYS down the road =).

What I am aiming for is duplicate accounts. Nobody needs 2 - 5 accounts like some do now. Why? Because you lost your password? Why didn't you ask for help? Did it not auth right? Why didn't you ask for help?

IMHO, Hotmail, Yahoo & Excite are the sewers of the internet. That is where spammers send out their spam to HONEST people. It is also where the runners of the service sell their user lists to spammers.. Im not saying you guys are spammers or anything, but, I am honestly thinking about blocking all yahoo/excite/hotmail off my personal mail server. It is like blacklisting kalama.com because of how 1 trouble maker wont leave the project alone. The internet sucks.

As for email addresses, you can use sourceforge email addresses. When you sign up for an account at www.sf.net, it will forward username@users.sourceforge.net to your email address. just a little hint.
