Yeah that seems to be my problem as well. I can login to the server from anywhere on my LAN but outside of it I just get 1017. I have checked and rechecked the ports in my router and they are all wide open. I am going to try putting it in a DMZ when I get home from work and see what happens for a couple of days like that.

My server is running in DMZ. Using noIP.com. No anti virus program intstalled.
No WinXP firewall enabled.
It should work..All I changed was HardDrive location. But before that it was acting strange like dropping clients. So I tried to restart and would not do it cause a RAID card I had would not let comp start. So I removed it. I was already running on a single drive.
Well to make a long story short I dont know what to do at this point to fix my problem. I dont see anyone even trying to log on to world server.
