Default No character, cannot load map error

When i make a new character, he is completely pitch black, just the outline of him. And when i go to join i get a map error saying the map file is missing, and the game shuts down. Anyone know what to do? thanks

Is this your own server, or someone elses?

need a bit more information to work on:

what client are you useing?
what server are you connecting to? (server version really..)
what video card do you have?
etc..

These will help us tie down what loose ends we have with this, as atm there are just too many possible ways this error could be going.
