Compiling Errors for world

I am running Ubuntu and GC++ 4.1 and I cannot seem to get past the world make file I get :
make -C world
make[1]: Entering directory '/home/eqemu/build/EQEmu-0.7.0-992/world'
makefile:32: .depend: No such file or directory

A bit more stuff shows up but then this starts repeating:
/bin/sh: -D_REENTRANT: not found

I am guessing I need some library or dependency. Any help would be great.
