Default Login Servers and In-game Connection Issue

Hey guys,

Its been long time that I have looked into this problem and I couldnt figure out anything including the technicians that came to help me.

The thing is, I can barely manage to connect to any server.
Most of the times when I try to login into the server select screen, it just says the usual "Logging into the server, please wait..." msg, but it just cant reach it.
About 1 try out of 10 succeeds to reach and I ge a blank server select screen.
If I insist alot, I can manage to see the server select screen every about 2 minis of tries. Once I do, I click on a server to login and it just can reach the server.

Its still possible for me to log into a server, but its kinda rare. Could take up to 7 minis lol =P
Once I am finally in, I usually LD every 2 zones that I do. Also, I experience no lag or disconnects while I am logged in.

The thing is, sometimes, when I dont even change anything, the connection becomes perfect and everything works smoothly. But its still very rare.

The thing is, that I have no problems logging into Scorpious 2K, SoD or live at all.

Also, I remember when the LS went down and eqemu used a different LS IP, I didn't have any problems with the different LS.

I really don't know whats wrong with it but nothing seems to help. I cant explain why I have problems only with eqemulator's logins. The thing the drives me nuts is when it sometimes works perfectly.

Thanks in advance for the help. Ask any questions you need.

Swish.

Information:

My normal internet surfing is always perfect. My router line status says that everything is more than good (noise margin 30/30, line attenuation 11/4.5).
I am like 300 meters from the exchange.

My line rate is 3136 Kbps down and 320 Kbps up.

I have tried everything: testing the problem in two different computer, changing from router to normal LAN modem, putting off firewall and any protection program, closing all program through MSCONFIG, reinstalling everquest several times, swithing to DMZ Host and tons of other stuff.

When I type ping eqemulator.net in the CMD I get 4 request timeouts.

You should try connecting to Angelox minilogin server (it's posted around here somewhere), where you have to point your eqhosts.txt directly at him, and use his webpage to set your current IP. If you can connect and journey around through that server, it is definitely not on your end - and possibly something else wrong with the relocation of our beloved Loginserver.

My theory is, many many people are having problems, but remain silent and just go away without a word. This cannot be a problem for just a small handful of players, unless they are all in the exact same part of the world on the same crappy ISP.

Ok, I have checked Angelox's minilogin server. I had the same problem.
I have rechecked if I have problems logging into S2k or SoD. I do have the same problems. I don't know why before it was fine. Its just so random lol.

Anyway, it seems like I have the same problem with all of the servers.

I live in Israel btw, but I doubt its the problem.
I really don't understand, but sometimes my router resets the connection and its working perfect for a period of time until it resets back.
I mean, what it makes me think is that its not something with my cpu. It must be something outside.

Could it be a problem my ISP?

Is there any way to check if there are any problems for my computer to communicate with eqemulator.net? The ping check don't work =P

Thats all I can think of for now =P

Thanks alot for helping =D

John Adams, I'm one of the silent ones. I had the emulator up and running fine and then maybe a month ago I started having the server selection / eqgame.exe crash out of the blue. I've been searching the boards and trying everything I can think of but nothing has worked.

I can connect directly to Angelox's server and SoD with no issues. I have to agree that it's most likely some weird problem on the server side.

One thing I do note on the server select screen: It says I have 25 out of 25 expansions. I was thinking this was maybe related to the crash, but then on Angelox's it said I had 29 out of 29 expansions. Probably doesn't mean anything, but you never know...

Swish, it almost sounds like you are having a networking issue unrelated to EQEmu.

Could be your ISP, router, cabling, NIC in your computer or just NIC settings... too many things to start trouble shooting from a far. perhaps you can post more info along the lines of what, exactly, you have done troubleshooting wise already? Perhaps a description of your network setup?

Thx for the help =P

Well, as I said in the first post. I'll quote and add whatever I can;

"I have tried everything: testing the problem in two different computer, changing from router to normal LAN modem, putting off firewall and any protection program, closing all programs through MSCONFIG, reinstalling everquest several times, swithing to DMZ Host and tons of other stuff."

I also tried to plug it to many diffrenet line spots in my house.
I'v tried to unplug anything else in the house that is connected to the phone lines.
I have even formatted my cpu two times and reinstalled eq.
I have upgraded my line rate.

My network setup..? Well, I am using a router that is connected directly with cables into two computers.

I have tried just about anything that I can do through my home hehe =P

It really seems like its a problem related to my ISP.
As I said before, sometimes it works perfect without me changing anyhting.
I just get on the computer one day and its all fine. next few hours, the connection resets itself (the router is reconnecting to the net without any reason) and it returns to be bad.
On the router, I tried all methods from disabling firewalls, port forwarding and setting the router on a DMZ host (which should disable any protection [risky]).

The most wierd is, yesterday I had a situation where it worked really perfect but the router said that the noise margin is very low (below 10, which is bad).
So it seems like its unrelated to how clean the line is.
Also, i had no issues while I had the IP filtering firewall and NAT on in my router. So its surely not a problem with the protection.

Now I am not sure what to do hehe. I mean, just keep changing ISPs untill I hit something good?
I thought about taking my computer to my friend's house and see if it works better in there.

If I think about, when I dont change anyhting and the connection changes all the time from better or worse, this means that is not something inside. Its something outside.

Just ask for any more information =P

Thanks,
Swish.

Btw, what is NIC?

Btw Seb44,

I happen to have that issue on specific account of my friend's.

On my old accounts, I never get eqgame crash. But on some of the accounts of my friend's, I crash after I type the password for just about 70% of the times.

Try creating more accounts? If you really want, I can find you some unused account that doesnt crash for me.

If it'll work for him, it makes more sense that its a server side problem. Which is kinda wierd... =P

Firstly NIC = Network Interface Card.

Secondly, by re-reading everything, can I assume you are on DSL? If so could you post the Make & Model of your DSL modem and router? At this point I am praying you don't have a Westel DSL modem.... I hate those f-ing things.

And lastly, when it comes to computer troubleshooting, the moment of "I have tried EVERYTHING" never comes. There is always something. Many years of tech support/troubleshooting has proven this to me.

This LS crash bug is driving me and my players crazy. Since we cannot see the LS code, we're pretty screwed in terms of fixing it ourselves. I can only pray that a workaround comes to light. I know of quite a few players who have left the emu game in frustration.

This problem affects many, many people. Theories that it is a client-side problem are simply not accurate, I'm afraid.

Just so I got the correct info off the net, does your DSL modem have 4 ethernet ports?

Hehe yeah =|

Still trying to figure out. I think the best idea is to take the computer with the router to a friend's house and try to see if the game works with his modem in his house. If it does, then try to see if it will work with my router to get conclusions.

Any other advice? =P

I have been having almost the same problem ...i can connect to the server select screen but no server ever show up in the list . I have talked to the Eqemu admins on IRC and I am connecting to the login server but for some reason i cant see the servers to login into one . I could login in fine before the server changes and have changed nothing on the machine or the network. This is really getting to be a last ditch effort on my part i love the EQemu community and i would hate to move on to another game . I hope this can be figured out
