Vista, Shortcut, secondary drive, and patchme. So simple, so irritating.
I've solved some pretty complex problems but now i'm not sure who I want to strangle first. Here's the scenario:
0. Have Vista, run as administrator, disabled UAC blah blah blah.
1. Fresh Install of Titanium to a secondary drive
2. Modified eqhost.txt
3. attempted to modify EQ shortcut
4. Running said shortcut causes the game to patch to live
5. Rage ensues.
When you first hit properties on the shortcut it looks like so:
D:\Everquest\EverQuest.exe
Then i change the shortcut to:
"D:\Everquest\EverQuest.exe" patchme -w
HOWEVER when you hit APPLY it AUTOMATICALLY changes back to:
D:\Everquest\EverQuest.exe
It is NOT set to read only and I checked OTHER shortcuts on the C: drive and they HAVE "the quotes"
Other than freeing up space on my C drive and installing it there, what the FREAK can I do to fix it, short of holding bill gates hostage.
2. I have a legit version of everquest installed IN A DIFFERENT LOCATION IN THE C DRIVE. It's not even the platinum edition.
3. ***MOST IMPORTANT*** I just attempted to install to the C drive and surprise surprise it does THE SAME EXACT THING.
4. I've gotten desperate enough to actually take a shortcut WITH quotes and just modify the quotes to point to EQ but it actually STILL automatically changed back. In a stroke of irony the shortcut from the LEGIT NON Titanium game HAS the quotes.
Is there an executable in your EQ directory labeled eqgame.exe?
You might try using that instead. I was able to add the patchme call at the end of the shortcut on my Vista machine, just didn't use the quotes.
As Myrakkel said you want to use "D:\Everquest\eqgame.exe" patchme not "D:\Everquest\EverQuest.exe" patchme. Also I am running Vista Home Premium with UAC enabled and it works just fine for me.

Okay I feel like a freakin' idiot. Needed to do a shortcut with EQGAME.EXE and not everquest.exe. HOWEVER it still wont let me do the quotes but without them it still worked. Thanks everyone.
Having similar issues and have gotten through them all, only when I run it now the screen just sorta flashes and then EQ does not start. I re installed video card drivers and still nothing. Maybe it is time for a better video card.
