Default Collective Servers

I was unsure on this topic, but my IP is dynamic (damn bellsouth). I have the server working on my PC so that when i want to login i can, but my sever is the only one in the list. Is or will there be a collective database of all the online servers? So that my friends wont need to reset their EQhost.txt file every time they want to connect to my server.

PS: Expect my world to be a great adventure site. My friend and I are going to re-do the entire EQ storyline, putting the world 2000 years in the future of the current EQ, in which many of the once great cities have been reduced to monster in-habbited dungens.

And there will be very few "Safe" zones, Full-PvP.

Large GM-Events once per-week, small ones every now and then. Large events will be mostly Uber mobs spawned and controled by the GM. There will also be Bounty Hunts, which will be to kill GM's desguised as normal players, and you will need to hunt them down. They will not be uber-buffed. so they will be killable by single players. Winners will get something...unsure what. Special items? Recognition? Also we will have best of the BEST, where it wont be class battles, but instead all out brawls for the win...should be fun (50+ players killing eachother all at once, 50+ not meaning level)

Question:
Will there be a sub 0 player rank? I want to have a server where I assign which controls players have based on their rank, dont want people just insta warping out og big battles.

Thanks,
-ZeroDegrez

Default dynamic ips

There is a collective list here's how to set up. Dynamic IPs should be fine just go to www.no-ip.com and register a free domain name. Then on gotfrags you can list you server there. Instead of using the minilogin, modify your loginserver to point to eqlogin.gotfrags.com

0.2.0 got rid of the no-ip or other dynamic DNS method because your server now is selected from the server list and not directly as in 0.9 and below.

I believe that you can create an ISP-unbreakable connection by using an internal, private IP and open up your firewall to make that machine visible. Then you always connect with the same IP such as 192.168.1.3. I know this sounds wierd, but I believe it works.

Isn't that interesting? I think so.

Well, nobody on the internet would be able to connect to a private address such as 192.168.1.3.

If the gotfrags login server is handing IP addresses to the clients and not FQDN's then there is no way to keep a server running on a dynamic IP.

However, since many people on Cablemodems and DSL with dynamic IP's only get new addresses rarely, it's a fairly simple matter of updating your server settings with the new IP and restarting it.

For my home machine, I use dhs.org, my linux server runs a script on cron that checks my ip every 5 minutes, if it detects the ip's changed, it contacts dyn and modifies the ip address registered to my hostname. Ive had it set up this way for the past 8 months or so, and I can't think of a single time Ive not been able to hit my box (I hit it alot from work). My linux box dual boots into 2k server, and when I feel like leaving it up, I run my server off of it. Ive toyed around with port forwarding the requests over too my XP machine, but havent really felt the need to do that yet. Im hoping the linux version will make a come back so I can just use it on my server.

Cbreakers right though, Ive rarely seen my ip change..

Well that's good. You can still use a dynamic dns service then.

Just like any Dynamic DNS service, this service maps your current IP address to a hostname. no-ip.com is the same type of service.
