Question enter name and password, nothing...

So, I've followed the wiki to install secrets of fadwer, got done and clicked on my shortcut. Sweet! I got a log in screen. Entered my name and password and.... and... Error - A timeout has occurred. Happens just a few seconds after I hit the login button...
I've got an Amd Athlon 64 x2 Dual core processor 5200+ (2cpus), ~2.6GHz and 2 gigs of ram. My video card is NVIDA GeForce 9600 GT 1779 MB ram. I am running Vista and on top of everything it's an hp. My router is a wireless linksys(that I have run a blue cable connecting my computer to it, LOL!!...) and I have comcast as an internet provider. After reading more threads than my not as computer savvy as I would like brain can handle I'm asking someone to point me to a few threads that have gone over what my problem is. If there is something sticking out that's completely obvious feel free to point and laugh, as long as you can point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.

Did you read the FAQ in my sig? Sounds like you either have your eqhost.txt file set wrong, or maybe you patched your client (even if only for a second) to Live by clicking everquest.exe instead of eqgame.exe. Make sure your shortcut has the patchme option set.
