Linux servers will only try to reconnect to the LS so many times before they give up trying to connect for good and will require a restart to get back on the Login Server List.

So, if the LS has issues and your server can't reach it, or if your ISP/connectivity has issues and your server can't reach the LS, it will eventually just stay off of the list. Generally, it can be due to ISP maintenance that brings your connection down for a few minutes in the middle of the night, or at least that is what causes it on my server from time to time.

If the connection hit is only brief, normally it should reconnect again just fine.

Also, yeah, your issue is very likely related to the thread that Chanus linked. I just figured a bit more info might be useful for reference.
