Default Disconnect at Name Submit

Please help me out of my tech quandry

I've been trying for the last two days to make this work. I am bootcamping from a mac and have had the same problem from Win XP and Win 7. (Thought using a newer Win OS would get around the problem) Yet, it is the same, i get disconnected after waiting 10 mins for name to submit. Screen goes black and says i have been Disconnected (ahh, memories of EQLive)

I have tried many variations on resolution, assigning 1 core to play eq, and updating specifically to directx 9.0c. All of this didn't solve the problem.

I figured it must be a connectivity problem, perhaps something to do with firewall or router. Tried port forwarding the specific EQ ports, but no joy there either.

I have ATI 5700 Graphics Card and 6GB Ram, currently on Win 7.....

Urm, please help?

I miss EQ

What version of EQ are you running? Check your logs folder for a file named dbg.txt and open it and post the date you see there in this thread.

I checked out the dbg.txt file and it says : (Build Oct 31 2005 10:33:37)

Later in the log it says what is happening at disconnect. It says:

Initializing character select UI.
Resetting game UI.
Networking: connection terminated [clientisconnectReasonUnacknowledgedTimeout, serverisconnectReasonNone)

Do i have a version that is too old?

Seems like it might be a port issue when sending to zone.

Is there a specific port number that is related to zoning in at this phase?

I would open all the ports on my router, but that'd make my computer poorly hehe.

Usually in the 7000's. In your eqemu_config.xml file, there is a port low and high. Are you using a dyndns address? Are your address and local address fields in use or commented out in your config?

I'm not really a tech genius, so forgive me, but..urm, where is eqemu_config.xml located? I searched my EQ install and the rest of my computer and couldn't find it.

From other postings i've seen about this file, isn't it used for setting up your own server?

Note: this post seems to have the same problem as me. But the poster is setting up his own server. I just want to play.

I set up a static IP yesterday and did some port forwarding on my router. I can't have got all the right ports. I definately think it is a router connectivity issue tho.

I looked through this post before. Runfirst didn't really work for me, but other programs did the job - will give Runfirst another try.

Thanks for the help on this so far. It'll work eventually

Oh, it's not your own server? Then ignore what we've been talking about. Which server are you trying to log in to? Are you behind a firewall like a university or corporate or something?

I've been trying to log onto PEQ and Hidden Forest, although i have the same problem with all of them (tried lots). I know P1999 requires extra files, so i haven't been testing my tweaking on there (although i want to play there when i manage to figure out what's going on).

So, the firewall situation - i'm not behind a corporate or college firewall. There is my Mac Firewall, Windows 7 Firewall and my Router Firewall. I disabled the Mac and Windows Firewalls pretty easy and things were the same. When i disable my router firewall the internet doesn't work at all.

I am managing the internet connection and router, so urm, i can test things out. I'm not all that knowledgeable about router stuff tho.

My router is a netgear DGN1000 *glare at router* and it's misbehaving.

Easiest way to test it out would be to temporarily bypass the router...

My router is also my modem, 2-in-1 package type of deal. I altered the port rules temporarily so that any incoming traffic would be allowed (bypassing the firewall) and that didn't do much.

Kind of losing faith. After all my tinkering, i am no closer to solving the problem or even knowing what the problem is.

By logic

- It can't be graphics, because the character screen loads up fine.
- It can't be firewalls, because i temp disabled every firewall in existence.
- It can't be a multicore to single processor quirk, bcos i changed that and there are no symptoms of it being this.

Maybe, i should try and get in contact with someone who administers one of the servers and see what is being sent/receive from my IP to their server? Dunno how i'd do that lol

I shall not give up.

After alot of port forwarding and firewall collapsing, figured out it can't be router. I've had the drivers for windows and graphics card update, of course. But now i'm thinking i might have to roll back the graphics card drivers to an earlier set.

Dunno why the character select screen would load up fine and the world would crash though. Makes no sense to me.

I spoke to Sony Online Entertainment about it and they just said that Mac makes fake Windows BIOS with Bootcamp and can't support the issue. (I think this was a cop out by the support guy) - others have made it work, so can I!
