Default Would anyone be interested in a server like this....

Hello,

So I'm debating whether to throw my server up to the public.
I made it a little more fun for me, and think that people may like it.
I loved to make alts and twink them out with goodies I found, then level them up. It just took too long sometimes.

It resembles Irreverent's configuration with a few twists.

here are the goodies:

No exp loss upon death
No item loss upon death
EXP multiplied by 25x
AA exp multiplied by 35x
Every item is droppable and tradable also no Lore restrictions
Every Level req / level reccomended has been moved to 0 (lvl 1 can wear time gear)
No Zone level restrictions (probably doesn't matter much)
bind anywhere

Clickable items you start with that give the following:
thorns
soe
virtue
Complete heal (3 second cast)
Bind affinity

also a charm that gives decent starting stats and gates.

MOBS -

HP cut down fairly significantly
Damage Cut down fairly significantly

The goal is to create a decent balance at each level where its soloable, fun, and you can dungeon crawl, but if you die no big deal. 1v1 fights should always win (bosses will be a little tougher, but once geared should be a breeze). Multi mob fights is probably most of the game, so that's where the soloability will come into play.

Any suggestions / thoughts?

Thanks,

personally, the things I want to see in a server are
1) linear progression (armor, weapons, skills, bots?, accessories, augs, etc)
2) challenges that can be accomplished in 1-2hours with a max of 2-3boxes

One of the weaknesses of several of the servers is that you either have to box more than one account or that you have to be willing to grind for months before you're useful to the existing players.

One of the things I really liked about Stormhaven was the linear progression. One of the things I don't like is that by the time you reach L70-75, you have to box to keep up with content. (If I can figure out why my new computer hates that server, I'll probably try that server again. Haven't been on Emu in months.)

A few more suggestions:
1) crafting is fun when you add no-fail recipes for items that dropped in level appropriate zones to net you new gear
2) use zone loot as a trade-in-quest instead of class/archetype specific armor (even if the loot is armor) drops (it's frustrating to grind for a few hours and see tons of druid and enchanter gear drop that no one can use while waiting on something you really need.)
3) don't be afraid to add spells to equipment to create custom classes. For example, imagine that you want to create two kinds of clerics the Paladin (not to be confused with the EQ version) and the Priest. With a robe that has a level appropriate group heal with reasonable recast your cleric is now a priest; swap in a breastplate that has a proc for defense boost with self heal proc and now you're a paladin. (For that matter, you could make these kinds of extensions to the 4 class base types: priests, mages, hybrids, pure-melee).
4) make sure your custom/required zones work for all clients (EZ server has some problems because they've refused to fully support anything but Titanium)
5) some of the EQ clients use AAs for class skills (Lay Hands and Harm Touch), please support these skills/AAs
6) many people (not me...) have tons of unused AAs on some of the servers, think of a way to let people trade AAs for augs, buffs, heroic stats, skills, etc

Whatever you do, good luck

Thanks for the feedback

1) crafting : I actually enjoyed the fail part of crafting and wish new games would implement this. Just a personal opinion, but I know what you mean.

2) use zone loot as a trade-in-quest: Right, i think that for things like ornate and elemental armor, it would be super cake to make a perl script to give you the correct item for your trade in.. boot for boots, gloves for gauntlets. nice suggestion,

3) don't be afraid : One thing i did try was opening up item wearables. the problem comes into play when the models are generated in game. I have items that look way out of place on models... like a book growing out of a gnomes elbow for example.

4) make sure your custom/required zones: I originally thought aobut custom zones, but then decided not to. It's eq EMU for a reason right?

5) some of the EQ clients use AAs for class skills (Lay Hands and Harm Touch), please support these skills/AAs. I'd hope that the base from svn supports all of these. If not I could probably implement them.

6) many people (not me...) have tons of unused AAs on some of the servers, think of a way to let people trade AAs for augs, buffs, heroic stats, skills, etc

Yeah This sounds like a good idea. Thanks!

On #3, do you mean that you let them equip a book to their arm?

or do you mean that an offhand book, equipped in the offhand, with modified stats would appear on the gnome's arm?

on #1, fail could work as long as you don't lose the old gear on fail. but, sounds like these suggestions might be moot if your intent is not create your own progression tasks/quests.

everyone is different; but for me, Emu is about custom content. Otherwise, I'd be on pEQ

On #3, basically what happened was I had a book that was only for certain races (not gnome) I opened it up to Gnome, and he equipped it, but the model looked strange, most likely because the coordinate vector either didn't match or didn't exist.

speaking of #1, I'm with you now after i did a bunch of fetching fails!

I've actually got a decent server setup, but I'm not sure if i'm going to make it public. I can give you an IP and a login un/pw if you wanted to beta it someday.

Not trying to flame or anything. I am truly curious. Why would you make a server with that kind of exp bonus? Why not just insta level to max level? With that kind of exp bonus it would seem that it would basically be kill one thing in Zone A and gain many levels then run to zone B kill one thing and gain several levels run to zone C kill maybe 2 things and run again. Seems if a person wanted to level that fast just making them start at max level would accomplish it easier.

One of the issues with high rate exp servers is that skill's (slashing, piercing, defense, ect) dont keep up with the level'ee, perhaps add a crafting quest, or the like, which you can do periodically that maxes skills to your level.

sure, i'd be interested in helping you test out your server and try out the concepts.

I think Criimson may have a point; but I suppose, without seeing how the x25/x35 plays out, I won't know for certain
On live, I thought one of the most briliant ideas was the server where you started as lvl 60 with 50 starting AAs.
Perhaps the solution is to come with an amount of time you think it should take someone to get to level cap as a solo newbie and then work backward to figure out what the XP mod should be. Perhaps even do an XP mod per zone.

On the skills thing, some of the servers do have quests that max stats. On EZ, once you complete the FG or CG quest, you can hail an NPC to get max Fighter or Caster based skill stats. Another server creates new players with 50skill in all skills (I forget which one that was, possibly Akka's).

Only issue i find with this is it will be overly easy and it takes the fun out of game. Gearing your level one with time gear which is tradeable. Why even bother, you play one character and thats the only fun and takes the difficulty. I would consider making some gear No Trade. makes it so a level 46 cant solo Quarm and such.
