Default I've been away from EQ for a long time...a few questions

I haven't played EQ in about 9 years now and was getting the urge to try out one of these Emulators but I just have a few questions:

Is there an Emulator that's pretty true to the original game, but where the experience gain is faster and possibly some of the rare spawns don't take hours on end to pop up?

I also would be looking to play at least 2 characters...is it possible to do this on one computer now in a window or do I still need to actually have 2 computers next to each other?

Finally, what program would I need to buy to run an Emulator? I've read Titanium but then in looking around it seems as if there might be a couple of better ones out there.

Any help is appreciated

Seeds of Destruction or Underfoot are the two clients that are probably best nowdays. The problem is, you can not find them For Sale anyplace. Steam had them for a while, but once EQLive went free to play they dropped the download.

As for the 2 accounts, for SoD+ you can simply go to options and run in windowed mode. This will allow you to run more than one instance.

There are some good emulators out there... my suggestion is that you try a few out!

Not sure if this has been updated since it was posted. Even if it hasn't it's still pretty new.

Thanks for the info. I actually found a SoD download but it's extremely slow and keeps cutting out every few seconds and rebooting. Hopefully in a day or so I can finish the download and get playing because there seems to be no other way to get the program

There used to be a good HoT Client floating around somewhere. I would recommend using the House of Thule client personally as it will give you pretty much all available zones, weapon graphics, NPC models that *most 99%* of servers have if they contain custom content.

As far as a server that fits your needs there are a few good ones out there. Going by the guidelines you've provided, one that would fit most of your wants/likes would be The Irreverent server. Contains live like events, accelerated exp, and soloable content, but allows for boxing. Another good server with custom content and allows boxing/accelerated exp would be Storm Haven, but its content is completely custom as far as zones to explore and quests to do. There is plenty to accomplish there as well.

Obviously try out several servers until you find one you enjoy. Most servers contain a website with some sort of information regarding the server and how it functions so don't be afraid to browse. There are several well put together and functioning servers with active developers so try out a couple before you make your decision as well. If you see a server you might think is interesting but isn't registered under the server list with a website, just log in and most keep a website in their MOTD when you first log in that you can check out. Good luck and welcome to the EQEmu world!

I thought I had posted something a few minutes ago but it doesn't seem to have come through.

If I'm not familiar with programming should I even bother with this? I've been looking into it for a while and nothing I'm trying between downloads or trying to unpack downloads seems to be working.

First of all, I'm seeing that I'm supposed to edit the eqhost.txt file and that file isn't even in my EQ folder (Seeds of Destruction)

No you dont need to be a programmer to just play the game, only if you want to develop your own server really. The eqhost file should just be a normal text file within the folder. Some SoD downloads contain missing files which sucks when trying to zone into certain places while playing. Just make sure you have your stuff up to date and most computers going on like 7 years old can run one window of this game no problem.

Ok, I'm down to two more questions (until something else pops up!)

First, I'm running the game on my desktop, and when I click it out of fullscreen mode the display becomes really big. Is there a way to dsiplay the game in a smaller window?

Second, on my laptop I'm getting a message that says "Memory cannot be read". I've been trying to find a fix online but nothing has been working. Is there some common fix that works with this game for the problem? I'm running Windows 7 and I can run Skyrim on it with no problem

Most of the time on Vista/Windows 7 the memory cannot be read error is because UAC is enabled. A simple solution is to move your EQ directory to base C:\ or a secondary hard drive.

I have seen Memory Cannot Be Read because of a UI problem too. When modifying my EQUI_Inventory one day I suddenly started getting that error. As soon as I moved back to the Default version of Inventory the problem went away. Not sure if you are using a different UI or not, just tossing this out there.

BDS,
hmm....I might just make that client move just to see if it clears up my UI problem. Thank you!

I just found the UIErrors log and it says:

Warning: file EQLSUI.xml not found in directory UIFiles\default\. Attempting to use file from Default skin.

Couldn't open or read UIFiles\default\EQLSUI.xml

Error reading XML

Error Loading skin: loading default skin instead

edit: I'm not sure whether or not this is causing the game to not start
