Kind of shooting in the dark here but if you followed the guide and still have issues, the newer weapons may have data that is unsupported by the older client.

Something which I have not seen is a well documented list of weapon icon / graphics available per client. Once we have RoF stable hopefully most of these issues are gone!

You can make 99-100% of all weapons viewable on any client, if you take 10min to patch to live then copy/paste the required files to the older client, adjust global load if required and add the required lines to equi_animations.xml
