Yes, they could of simply used the calculation almost every other MMO and many RPGs use:

damage_reduction = armor / (armor + class_and_level_factors)

Which is amazingly simple and provides for a linear increase in effective hp with each point in armor.

Alas... good info, perhaps someone can see about fixing up AC to not suck.

We still need exact soft caps :/

The dev in this post just says it's a table, which I'm willing to bet is just a precomputed LUT, or maybe I'm just being hopeful, because then it would be rather easy to generate if we new the formula :P
