Default GM Commands... in the hands of your local village idiot!

I was searching the EQ live server and on the forum i came accross this post, said they found a way to keep us annoyed and try to get us to quit EQEmu. Its the #cast and #castspell command. People found that it was easy to log into a server, zone to sleeper or something and just #CAST the hell out of a mobb, like the SK ability Harmtouch. I witnessed someone in GFaydark summon Naggy and use Harmtouch about 1000 times, looked at my connectivity bar and i was at like 8% and then bam disconnected, looked how many people were left on the server.... 2 was the answer.. the server crashed and kicked everyone. So i zoned to the other server Lethal Encounter... and someone was doing the same exact thing, with a similar name. I told them to stop using the #cast command and he just laughed at me so i used #freeze and he used /q. Totally made me annoyed that someone can just come into any server and use #cast... please fix this. If people wana cast spells, let them scribe the darn thing... were not trying to make a universal class here are we?

Legit servers have #cast disabled for hte most part, and as of Jan 31st Lethal's server-where i am a gm will be going legit (as far as I know) so #cast is gone. And yes that does really piss me off when people abuse stuff like that...

One night I zoned into gfay where someone had spawned 10.000 or so mobs all with epic weps so it nearly crashed the god damn server. (Times like that I was glad i had zone repop abilities)

I know people like to mess around with the game but still...

What we need is a delay for #cast.

Make it so non gm's (status 100+) cant use #cast more than once every 2 or 3 seconds (maybe 4 or 5).

Then we need to go around and make it so #cast doesnt work on non-player spells (unless your a GM).. so you wont be #casting 32k DD spells that only fennin ro is supposed to cast.

hmm spawning a bazillion mobbz in GFaydark... yeah that was last night on Freedom Alliance. All i did was #depopzone and then some guy was like WTF??? and im all WTF??? then we were both like laf laf then i realized that our laughing never reached eachother and we both got kicked cuz someone else summoned a mobb and used a bunch of HT's and MB's on it.... So after getting kicked went to Lethal's server and was listening to the chat... then noticed someone ask this " how do i set my AA points?? " someone else informed them that it was the command #setaapts and just 5 seconds later it was instalag time. AA points cause lag also, tested it myself, and yes it does. I put 3 points into a skill and my bar turned yellow, i put 50 points in and i got red but not disconnected. Did a /who all promptly and im sorry to say, it was populated by 2 people.. one was me, the other was a guy over in cabilis. So i asked him if he was lagging and yep he was.. promptly i was disconnected also. And the server came down so i went back to Freedom Alliance and told everyone bout the problem. Still... about 6 more disconnects happened on FA because of #cast spammers so i fell asleep and just tried to forget about it.

It is up to the server administrator to disable commands he doesn't want running on his server. This is one reason that on live eq that only Gm's can /cast spells. What we need are more people caring about how their server is setup than just people that put their server up to get on the list.

But, there are a couple drawbacks. If they take away #cast, nobody will want to play there. Why? Because they want a quick thrill (You can blame it on undergroundguides.com). Oh yay!

Barring things I've heard from street people begging me for stuff at the YMCA, that message from Yellat was the most incomprehensiable thing I've ever read....

OMG Hogie, they are selling our servers??? WTF do they think they are doing. I know that Winters Roar (legit) Server is usually populated by about 4 people at any time... do you really think they bought it? All that work for a text file... eqhost.txt i never knew a killobyte could cost so much.

Oh yeah and also, saw Hogiebane up a while ago is that your server? Was listed as locked, and saw your thread. What kind of puter you tryin to put together? Processor wise, memmory and such. Would like to know for FYI.

They sold a guide explaining how to set the server up and log into them.. I think it actually did more than provide a host file, it explained how to run both our server and etherealquests..

Also,
FYI means FOR YOUR INFORMATION, for when you are offering information to someone, not when you are asking for it, that would be FMI, FOR MY INFORMATION..

Im not building a machine to host a play server. Im trying to build us machines for the login servers. These are 2 totally different things. I have had no qualms on hosting the servers as I have done for almost a year now, and that is fine. I just need help to keep it running. $200/month is a lot of money.

Yea, people like to use the commands.

Everytime somebody would login the main question would be
<b>"why cant I use commands?"</b>

At least this will keep the server population down. Too bad they will be missing out on the content we have been adding.

Nothing like defending freeport as a noobie

Honestly, the overall thoughtfulness of the users of eqemu has gone downhill in the last.... 9 months. When we had 300, we had fun, now it is "When is AA gonna work, when is Horses gonna work, why isn't item XXX in? Why dont you have Plane of Time spawned?" blah blah blah blah blah.

I am thinking of setting forth a guideline for the dev team. Classic Everquest first. Get the original Everquest working right, then add more. We are getting too spread out with trying to fill requests. Also, setting #cast as something higher by default will make it where the servers have to turn down that stupid command to make lusers use it.

I agree..

Classic first.. Recreate the original EQ experience (ala Image and Tigerius)

Once we have that at 90% or so, look at doing new functionality (AA's, Disciplines, etc)

You know what we need Hogie, we need a lifecycle defined... Identify what we need to get working, and seperate it out by priority. Getting quests 100% is alot more important than figuring out Improved Harmtouch.. Start with tiers defined by EQ classic functionality, then progress through expansions..
