you're pretty much right about the alpha2

cept, it will be up and running this weekend by the looks of it...

we just needed to make the account creation automatic, and also needed the server to reload the accounts onChange

but yeah, right now, all you can do is walk around and use a few hardcoded commands.

as for development going slow due to closed src...

i really don't see that as being true. the biggest reason is, the CoAD server runs using scripts. we are using the codeDOM w/in .net to allow users to write vb.net or C# code for scripts. 99% of the server is controled by these scripts. And since these are uncompiled files (they get compiled when you start the server), most of coad is esentually(sp) open src.

The coad devs will not be writing all of the scripts. We expect that the community will write way more scripts that any of us. The CoAD package will be designed so that it is as close to the real servers as possible, but anyone can feel free to write their own new systems/items/races/etc.....

so in the end, the only thing the core server does is handle data (you will have some control over this as well) and the network code. For the most part, everything else is in script.
