Default eqemu in a nutshell

basically, eqemu is the game Everquest without any support by SOE or paid administration, but rather your fellow players. what that means is while you can bend and break the rules almost exclusively, but there is little content and even less support. most servers are EXTREMELY unstable and crash often (even more often than on Sony's servers). not all zones work (this seems to depend upon the server and the mod running it), and the ones that do are usually devoid of any npcs to fight (while there are exceptions, it's usually an empty world). so don't expect to get the same playing experience as the legit version of EQ, with all the quests and dynamic content. and since GMS in EQEmu are even more rare than GMs in legit EQ, you're basically on your own as far as technical problems.

The strong point of EQemu is the Magelo item database feature, where you can find an item, then summon said item based on its Magelo number. This is why the majority of players use EQEmu, to create their "dream" uber toons, forever playing with the numbers to create the perfect PC. While some server mods are working to make EQEmu more than twinking out dream toons, at this point that is about all that can be said for it. It IS very helpful in learning about other classes which you've never played ingame, and you CAN see zones and items you'll never ever get to see in legit Everquest.
