Default flaming?

I notice that the topic of "flaming" has come up a couple of times. Maybe I am too much of an old-timer UNIX/mudder person, but I believe I read most of the threads and haven't seen anything that looks like flaming to me.

There is a difference between passionate posting and intentional attacking other people -- or am I wrong?

That's the problem with most net terminology, they have no concrete definitions. Most likely this was prompted by the thread I closed earlier for "flaming." It was the best word I could find to describe idviduals arguing with each other and heading towards personal attacks. Even if that wasn't the case, the thread was going downhill anyway.

I was in no way affended by what others were posting in response to my threads. And also in no way was I planning on going so low as to make personal attacks on them for any reason. I'm just posting how I feel and what I think.

Ive seen a few that headed that way, but we havent degraded to downright FLAMING yet. I do see it could happen very easily though, so I understand some of the Threads getting closed. (The legends one at least, that one was definitely getting to swapping personal attacks). I had a question about why Robyte closed the other as I didnt see anything resembling flaming in there, but he explained his rationale in here.

How funny.. The thread about flaming is starting to look like it's heading in the same direction.

Ok. evil is now banned so hopefully that will help (his warez posts were last straw). He seemed to be the cause of most things so now it should be better..... no reason for this thread now =) IMHO flaming is a case by case basis, but if its reported it will almost always be removed or locked. If warez is involved that user will be banned, his posts deleted. (The entire thread will not be removed unless it turned into a flame fest which is 4 or more "flames").

Locking thread...
