Default Want to Help. Where do I start?

Hello All,

I just found out about this site a few days ago and am very enthousiastic about this project u have running. Being a hardcore EQ fan, but not having the time anymore to play EQLive endgame, EQEmu looks like a great alternative.

I had little problems (all problems got solved using this forums search) and was suprised to see how much you guys archieved already.

I would like to help improve the database and started reading a lot of threads in this forum. After reading some Im still confused on some points, so if anyone would help me out here ; )

* Some entrys in the database are made by hand, but could somebody explain which parts can be collected by a packet collector (if any?).
* Are the worldbuilders on EQemu working together or are the databases not meant to be merged?
* Is there a possibility for the worldbuilders on eqemu to have some sort of overview on what they want to work on and more important on which parts they could use help? Im sure there are a lot of ppl tweaking their own database while they could be all working together. (Or am I being to idealistic here?).
* To backup a sql database (eq, can I just zip the 'eq' folder in mysql dir?

Hope yuo could answer this for me, would help me out a lot.

Thanks a ton, greetz DazL

There was always talk of a worldbuilding team, but no one came along could organize a group to work on it. I believe ultimately there should be a worldbuilding group, like the development team, that puts out unified database, or database creation engines that allows you to quickly come up with a cookie cutter database that you can then hand modify...

So far, there have been several very talented people working on creating databases, but theres has been no unificiation.

To backup, yes, you can..

I suggest using mysql dump though myself, as its a text file, and portable, and easily edittable should you want to modify the data in it..

Thanks for the quick response. Are the worldbuilders aiming at a 'raw' (in the near or distant future) copy of eqlive data? If so then it might indeed be very wise to work together on one unified database with one unified to-do/wishlist.
Maybe the major worldbuilders on this forum could come together in MSN some time and talk this over? Or am I missing something here?
Just curious; )

Keep up the great work all,

To my knowledge, there appear to be three major (more or less) complete databases for EQEmu:

EQEMu 4.1 Database addon
Drawde's Worlddata 1.1 beta 4
Telmet's EQEMu 0.4.4 DB

Being new to the EQEmu scene myself, which one(s) to use has been somewhat confusing to sort out (another good reason to start some collaborative effort amongst the world builders). As far as I can tell, Drawde is working on a new version of his database & expects to have it completed soon. The EQEmu-0.4.1-DB-Addon appears to be out of date & incompatible (?) with the new server version (EQEMu Server v0.4.3) due to changes in how it deals with the database. Out of those listed above, the Telmet DB is the most current & complete available.

If any of what I just stated above is incorrect, please feel free to correct me.

Default Question to the worldbuilders

Heyas,

Could any of the major worldbuilders give a reaction to the idea of making one unified database for eqemu? There seem to be a lot of ppl doing the same things.

I wanted to fill in some empty spots in my database, like some named mobs loot, but then again, I would like to help some other ppl by adding this info to their database. So could anyone say if any help is appreciated in this matter?

Could somebody plz say which parts of the database can be filled using a packet collector? I would like to focus on the other parts and add stuff by hand (quests, loot drops, etc.).
But before I do I want to make sure there isnt a 'simple' way by logging into my eqlive account and grabbing the data. I dont care about being banned. I was cancelling the account anyway ; )

Keep up the great work!

Default About the packet collector

Major problems with the packet collector, it collects WAY to much crap data(duplicates) and doesn't collect hidden(un-spawned) mob data.

Best thing to do, wait for Dwarde's DB then try to fill in or collect data of mobs locs.
