I think the current registration process may be broken. I have two friends that tried to sign up recently, and succeeded on the first step. However, they were never sent a verification email. I personally tried this, thinking they did something wrong - but I got the same result.
I went into the MIRC chatroom, and someone said that it's a known issue. But I haven't seen it on any forum posts. Is this a known issue?
We've been working around it by using my login/password. Fortunately, we can all play simultaneously with one login. But now we're starting to run out of character slots on our favorite server
