Default Can we finally fix this?

Problem: EQEmu Patcher
Error:Can't connect to patch server
Solution not found in this forum, no documentation found either.

After searching through the forums, seems some people have this problem, others dont have any problems, yet no answers for those having problems from the devs (did you make this program?)

So, are we stuck till a new version comes out? Are we just stuck period? Does anyone know how EQEmu Patcher works?

I have tried it from my network (WinXP) and from a stand-alone comp (WinME) both have same problem, but the only thing similar between systems is the IP (is my cable internet the cause?)

I dont understand (but Im not a guru) because EQLive works fine, no hiccups at all.

Anyway, im willin to post any info anyone is curious of, or change settings or whatever, but im out of ideas (not that i had many to start with) on what to do.

thanks in advance

OK, I know it's frustrating, but don't blame the EQEmu devs or anyone else here. As I understand it, the person who wrote the patcher program disappeared some time ago & has not responded to attempts at contacting him. The very best advice I can give is to refer to this post, paying special attention to this statement:

Make sure you have the latest updates to Windows (if running under Windows), including Service Pack 1 if you're running Windows XP. Also make sure you're not running or otherwise behind a firewall or proxy that's blocking the program's access to the Internet.

Other than that, I doubt there's much anyone here can do to help you.

It's strange seeing so many people having problems with the patcher, since I got it up & running on the first attempt (don't you just hate me now? not to worry though, I've had my own crosses to bear in getting this working). I'm running Windows XP with Service Pack 1 & all the latest updates. I even have a firewall installed on my computer (ZoneAlarm), but I've set it to allow certain programs to have access to the Internet (like the patcher). I'm on a dial-up connection that's as slow as molasses but at least it works.

Some people have reported that many broadband providers place their users behind a proxy, so if you're on a broadband pipe, call your ISP to check if this is the case (not all ISPs advertise this fact). If so, see if you can access a dial-up modem connection via someone else's machine (copy your EQ files to a CD), or (if you have a modem installed) your own.

Why can't somebody just put a link to these files? I mean, where does the patcher get these files, thin air?

Well, thanks! :D
That did the trick, I got a modem, connected up with it and what do you know...BAM! got the patch...smooth as silk.

If you havent made that suggestion as a sticky, Id sure suggest it, it was just what was needed, a bit of insight that I never knew (the part about broadband providers putting ppl behind a proxy  ).

Default Glad you got it working. :)

Glad you got it working. I suspect that this is the case for a lot of people having problems with the patcher. Guess that's one good thing about still being on a dial-up connection.

Yeah, after suggesting this to you I updated my local server setup instructions (link in my sig) to include the same info. I conveyed to you, & it's now stickied.

Because it would be illegal. we can't just give you EQ files without knowing for sure that you own EQ. I dont think the patcher would work in an empty EQ directory (and just download every file). If we give you the EQ files (or let someone else give them to you), it would be available to anyone and everyone even if they dont own EQ.

Can someone explain why i need a dial up connection in order to use the EQEmu patcher?

I'm on cable broadband and i have never come across this problem with any other program.

OK i just discovered my isp uses a proxy( didn't even know )

I'm guessing this is the reason the patcher doesn't work. Is there a way around this so i can use the patcher?

Hi,
Dont know if you guys still check this thread,

I've only been playing around for two days but I seem to have stuck the "dreaded 1017 error".

My settings:

Win2k
binaries - 0.4.3
minilogin - 010503
patcher -1.0.1

drawds database - not sure which version latest I could find, 44dr1.zip whichever that was.

I think I must have read all the threads. And have not seen a case described exactly like mine yet.

Like others when I use miniloging, or the eqemu server I can get upto the point of choosing a server. When I choose it it useually gives me the error. But when I have just ran the patcher program I get one chance of playing on a eqemu server. If I quit the eq client then I have to rerun the patcher.

Related to this I think is that sometimes when I run Everquest.exe or eqgame.exe with eqw or just by doubleclicking the icon it crashse instanly. Rerunning the patcher seems to temporarly fix this.

I am not sure under what exact conditions this happens, I need to experiment more. But the way I see it theres 3 possibile causes.

1. Compatablilty issues. Something to do with the server expecting something from the database which I've screwed up. (Doubtfull though as it happens on eqemu servers too.)

2. Something to do with the patching, either the big patch from eqlive or the roolback from eqemu. I would be more inclined to think the rollback like others as, rerunning that fixes it for the eqemu servers(but what about miniloging, nope???).

3. Something to do with my ini files. Like what was suggested about eqhost.txt. - I have experimented with eqhost.txt and doesnt seem to change anything.

Oh, well I'm going start from scratch again tonight and try to fix it. I'll leave a message when I fix it.

I've discovered that my problem was to do with usernames. Either in the database or in MiniLoginAccounts.ini. I had the server running sweet, but then I decided to play around a bit and try and work out what exactly I had wrong. unfortunatly I stuffed it up..... :(

O,well I'll try again

This is a really usefull page for the 1017 error...
