Are you using the current EQLive patch? if so, there is absoluately nothing you can do about this.

if you are using the december patch (which you should have) then reply saying so..

do NOT ask for EQ files and do not post links or directions to EQ files (for anyone reading this).

LOL did you get the top 3 or 4 post about posting? you have to wait tell the next working verson of eqemu comes out befor you get to play no one can give you those files you will get bannd for asking for them or give them to people

this is out of the basic rules:
1) No Warez (No Discussion or Providing of Warez). Warez is any file that has been obtained without purchase from the company or a "legit" vendor, or without the sole permission of the owner, or company is considered illegal and is not permitted on these forums. This also includes all EQ files and also means do NOT ask, give out, host, or in some other way promote the giving out of these files. This includes but is not limited to: The EQ Patcher, eqgame.exe, eqmain.dll, spdat.eff, cshome.s3d, cshome_chr.s3d, or ANY file downloaded with the Verant EQ Patcher (aka Everquest.exe) with the exeption of files that can be re-created within 10 seconds by hand (this means eqhost.txt is okay).

You must wait until eqemu 4.5, or any version that is compatible with live as it is when the release comes out. Sorry!

Ducky. So the patch server is down indefinitely, anyone trying to play on a server can't get the necessary files, and those of us just now trying to set up a server are SOL. Not to mention that asking about ways to circumvent the problem will result in a banning...
Not that I'm really complaining (free software already in the gray area of the law and all that) but there really needs to be something that people like me can do about it.
Anyone got a T-3 and an understanding admin? Maybe someone could put up a new patch server or something...
Currently I've got this really nifty EQ server up and running, but the experience is limited to watching the DOS windows load.
An idea might be to create a patch based on the absolute latest version of EQ which downgrades from that. (Then distro by independent means.) The load should then be on other servers. I'm sure that a good many people on these forums would be willing to give up some bandwidth to that cause. (Myself included.)

That's what patcher does. Patcher shoots out gigs upon gigs every month, due to every member of eqemu and hackersquest coming here to check out patcher and the emu's. That's a lot. It repeatedly cost Hogie extended use fees. It costs a lot of money to operate. It was temporary, and now it's gone.

The idea was to defer the load over multiple servers. It's quite possible, and actually pretty simple with PHP, or even just a moderated mirror program. Hell, just make the thing work like a banner rotator and hit different servers every time.
Or you might try to run them via Usenet, or even Kazaa. As I understand the problem it is a matter of bandwith and user stupidity, so taking the burden from the EQemu site would be the optimal solution.
Or, another idea, have a "Patch Server IP" option in the patcher program and let the matter solve itself as will happen in the opensource community.
Any of these would have the added benefit of removing the borderline-warez label from the team itself. No need to worry about people taking notice.

If bandwith is a big deal, I might have a solution. Im not a networking expert so if this is retarted dont shoot me, Im just tyring to be helpful.

My dsl company gives me like 128kbs upload and download speed. Unlike webhosting, this is unlimited. No caps ya know? Of course they do happy things like giving you a dynamic IP and blocking the default port 80 so people dont get smart ideas like hosting a webpage from their pc. Well, you can just tell people to use a different port, and theres a nice free service called NO-IP that circumvents the dynamic IP problem. They check your new ip evertime you turn your computer on, and so once you pick your fixed ip address, it just redirects everyone to your IP of the day. I use it to share files with by friends without having to burn cd's for them.

That should work just fine, and if people turn of their computers just have like 3 people do it on different shifts or something.

ALso making people log into the patch server might be a good idea too. Make everyone use their forum password to log in and alocate 3 accesses per month.

Im getting this error too on certain servers. I can log on some but not others. I also noticed guildwars server has no people at all on it so others must be experiencing this problem.

i believe the 1017 error is caused on the server end, not your computer. i have had this error when logging into certain servers, but on others. just my 2cp .
