When creating your item, what number did you use for the material? There's different models you can use. For example, material 3 gives you plate armor look, but material 22 gives you Luclin plate armor look. Here's a list in case you weren't aware of the materials:

Armor (cloth)
Armor (leather)
Armor (chain)
Armor (plate)
Armor (monk)
Armor (chitin)
Armor (scale)
Robe (advisor pattern)
Robe (FBR pattern)
Robe (ishva pattern)
Robe (oracle pattern)
Robe (kedge pattern)
Robe (SMR pattern)
Robe (plain)
Armor (icy)
Armor (dragonskin)
Armor (stability pattern)
Armor (ulthork)
Armor (ry'gorr pattern)
Armor (guardian pattern)
