I have no idea what I did to get EQ to log into the .5.0 server. None of my friends can using the process I *think* I used.

All I think I did was run EQ using the shortcut it created when it installed, let it update from sony. I let it "predownload" some expansion, no idea which one though. Then I just replaced my eqhosts.txt with the one from this site. So basically the instructions on the readme section of the site minus anything to do with the patcher.

I'm using the everquest install freely available on sony's everquest ftp though, maybe thats it? I'd post the link but I don't want to get banned if theres some reason I shouldn't be using it.

Once I get into the server I can create a character, and join the game but the rest gets confusing. All the NPC's just stand around and cast spells on themselves (I get about 30 "blah blah begins casting a spell" every few minutes). If you try to interact with them they respond "What do you want your tombstone to say".

I never played the .4.4 version so I don't know how the game is supposed to work. I'll figure it out as the codebase of .5.0 gets updated to make it work correctly.

--UPDATE--
I was playing around a few minutes ago and ran EverQuest.exe (instead of eqwindows I usually use) and it updated a couple of files. I replaced the eqhosts file again but now I cant even login to the eqemu server to get a server list. Should have backed up the directory...
