They cost a decient amout of cash, couple hundred dollars.

Its been say;d in IRC that none of the free ones will compile 5.0 correctly. I havent tried but if Master Trumpcard says it will it must

gcc is completely free, but u have to install linux to get it... Unless you want to run it off of cygwin (www.cygwin.com) which is very cool by the way..

If you go the windows route, then yes, you need to buy Studio .net. Folks have been working and compiling it with Bloodshed dev-c++, but no idea if they've ever suceeded.
