Default Connection Issue
I, and a few other people, judging by the posts, am having a problem actually getting on any servers. Here is what I have done:

Patch to live
Alter eqhost
Alter DataRate
Open my no patch shortcut
Connect with my forum username and password
Click a server
Click play
Everquest returns to opening screen

I am running a fairly good PC which runs live fine, AXP1700+, on 56k dial-up on Windows 98 Second Edition.

I have been away for a week or so, so i am not sure if this was fixxed or not, there was an issue with people with dial up logging in / staying on. you may just need to wait for them to get everything more stable.
