Default Server Creation

I've only been playing EQEmu a few days, but i've decided i'd like to try to make my own server.

I've heard alot about 1. servers costing alot. What are these costs? and 2. unstability. The sever comp is going to be about 700mhz and 100 RAM. The computer i'm using to play is much faster and has alot more memory.

What i need to know is

1) What are the server costs?
2) What kind of comps are you guys using to host the server?
3) How much memory does all the EQEmu software (described in the tutorial of running your own server) take?

Thanks.

costs are nothing. you have a computer and net connection already.

you *will* want to add more ram tho.

i'd do 512MB.

stability depends on the number of clients connecting. I can leave my client logged in to my server for days w/o problems... zoning around and working on quests etc.

Then i've played on guildwars2 where you can go LD every 5 minutes just sitting there. Depends on the number of clients in the zone/on the server.

1. There are no server costs, unless you plan on making a huge stable server (like Winters Roar or Guild Wars). The only cost is hardware and bandwidth, EQEmu is free.

2. I'm hosting a MiniLogin server on a P4 2.2Ghz, 512RAM and playing off the same comp. usually around 3 or 4 players max. Everything runs smoothly. The big problem is zone.exe - it is quite CPU and RAM intensive if you start having 5+ players.

3. Around 4Mb for EQEmu, 20Mb for SQL, 40Mb for DB, 30Mb for Perl, 5Mb for utilities/tools (Admin etc). 100Mb tops, I'd say.

Check out the tutorials and how to's forum to get a step-by-step setup of your server, and what all you will need (nothing but the hardware and isp will cost you anything).
