And therein lies your mistake.
Patches to the EQ client will sometimes break their ability to communicate with EQEmu servers.
If you expect to be able to play on Emu servers, you must, you must, YOU MUST, refrain from patching until you see posts here saying it's okay to do so. Server version 0.5.7 is in the works that will be compatible with the Apr. 21 patch, but that's not to say Sony won't come along next week and put out another game-breaking patch.
Patch at your own risk.

FINALLY... an answer to my troubles.. its not me lol. You know, it would be a great idea if as part of the help here, a zip file with the files that were broken so one can go to a prepatched state...
Hmmm.... or I can just do it myself and link to it every patch update :P

Well, but as 1000 times before allready posted, this would be warez, is not allowed and can get you banned from the forums by the administrators. So don't even ask for EQ related files....

hmm i see teh fine line tehre, could be argued one way or the other (such as can soemthing that is incompatable with eq, like prepatched files, really be called warez) but I digress.. means its up to me to keep my own backups then.

quickie on warez issue
but what if someone posted the NAMES of the changed files, so we could go to a friends computer and get them and unpatch ourselves in reguards to the 4/21 patch but be compatible w/ the Eqemu version of our server?
uh, I don't suppose anyone knows what files were changed from 4/21 patch that we'd have to replace...anyone?

Really, the only files you need to worry about when you patch are anything that ends in .exe or .dll. Although I have plenty of space (so I just back the whole shebang), all you really need to back up are EverQuest.exe (the patcher), EQGame.exe (the game), EQGame.dll (umm... Library for the game), and the DirectX files (dunno remember the names of those offhand though).
If you do that then the only thing you need to worry about is if they totally revamp a zone during a patch. Then you just need to stay away from that zone ingame until the server's updated.

so in theory, in the sad event that I get caught in a patch gap in the future I can replace those *.exe files and any *.dll files in the EQ directory with a backup or a copy from a friends computer who has the "proper" patch?
In the senario above if I update to the latest SUPPORTED version of DirectX are there files that are DirectX related in the EQ directory that I will have to identify and repalce also?
Thanx for the help!

The only DX related file that you have to worry about is the d3dx9-soething-or-other.dll file that's in your EQ folder. That's an EQ specific file that is maintained by SOE/Verant. An easy way to make sure you have all the files you need for a backup would be to drop to the command line, go to your EQ folder and do the following:
Code:
mkdir EMu_backup
copy *.exe EMu_backup
copy *.dll EMu_backup
copy *.ini EMu_backup
copy eqhost.txt EMu_backup
All you have to do is, after you patch (if you're still able to play on EQEMu servers), just re-run those commands to back it up again.
If you happen to patch and it breaks EQEMu, then just copy the files in your EQEMu_backup folder back into your EQ folder.

Its a good idea to also back up the wole uifiles directory because while they never actually keep you from being able to log in and play, they can cause some major weirdness when new files are used with old executables. Like using 5.5 ui files and 5.3 exes caused people to not be able to make characters and other weird bugs.
