Default Explain all this please!

Right... First to introduce myself.. I am Global_Inferno... I am a member of the UOX and UOX-Classic communities... I am a very experienced member with all things uox.. Now I didnt even own a copy of everquest untill yesterday. What i want to be able to do it play online for free..(dont we all!!) Now at UOX we have a logging-in tool called UO-Gateway, this has a list of all publicly availible servers which are free and online/offline status, etc. And it modifies the files required to log on to these servers automatically... We also have UOX which IS the server emulator sofware.. Now i am probably not going to even attempt using this for EQ but it'd be nice to know what it is... Also with UOX the server admin needs to add monsters and NPC's into the server manually OR download a pre-made one. Is it like this for EQ as well!??

What i really need is a few pointers... using UOX comparisions would help me a LOT... thats why im doing it.. sorry!

Default global

I was a member of the uox project as well and i can list off most of the differences between the two. #1 UOG is essentially the same (function wise) as the eqemu login server. #2 uox has console commands and is script driven whereas eqemu has no console options and is database driven. #3 being an older project uox has some really great features (like the gump menu adds etc) that eqemu doesn't have YET. i left the uox project to join up with wolfpack( same type of project but their goal was to make it stable then add features) then i came here because eq hooked me like i've never been hooked before and i wanted to build my own world not just play. this project is very impressive but still holds a lot of promise inb pushing the emulator envelope.

my 2 cp

forgot the main question you can populate the world manually if you want to but it is much easier to dl a ready to go db and change it as you see fit.

Ok, thnk you very much.... Now to dl these 'Worldfiles' (UOX equiv.) where do i get them from? and which are the most complete and most like the REAL thing? Also the loging tool... does it include a list of public servers!? And if not... where can a list of them be found...?

Thnx,

The most complete are probably Drawde's, Ariak's or Lurker's. All three contain most of Drawde's data with some additions. Personally I like to use Ariak's database however in the end it's mostly a matter of preference. All three are very much like the real thing. There is no actual Log in tool like the UO Gateway. You need to modify one of the everquest files to give you a list of servers while in the game.
You need to update the file eqhost.txt and create yourself an account at http://eqemu.net/login
the updated eqhost.txt file can be found at:
http://www.eqemu.net/eqhost.txt
after downloading that file put it in the everquest folder on your hard drive.
Then you need to run everquest in a special way
You can look for and try to use a program called EQW
or you can start everquest from a command prompt by
Opening a command prompt
typing: c:progra~1everqu~1
then typing: eqgame.exe patchme

everquest should load up
select connect
enter your user name and password you created at http://eqemu.net/login and press enter
you will then connect to the login server and see a list of world servers that people are running. Select one and your all set.

Okay this is where I come in and say "You should really just play EQ to get a feel for the game otherwise the EMU will ruin the exp." It is true. IF you never played the game in RL then the emu will just be confusing and lacking in areas. Sure the devs have done a extremely well job but it is still not there yet gameplay wise. I would sign up for a month and if you like it then try the emu. It will help in the long run.

Look in the World builder forum for links to the newest databases. Drawde's .85 is the newest release I know of.
