Default Server Connect Error PLEASE HELP!

ok, this is what i have done, i run eq emu from another hard drive other than my OS (if that could possibly affect anything i dont know) i ran the everquest patch to get the files from sony, then i ran the EQ EMU patcher and it updated the needed files, after that i logged into EQ EMU with my Login name and password from this site and then when i go to connect to any server i get one of 2 messages, "Error 1017: Cannot login into EverQuest server. You may need to re-run the update patch." the other message i dont remember what it was but i didnt see it but once or twice, now i told yall my process of acessing eq emu.... is there something im doing wrong? please help, TIA

Don't use the EQEmu patcher. Patch to live, change your eqhost.txt and away you go.

i have also read the guide over and over and havnt found anything i could be doing wrong so please dont just point me in that direction and then leave me hangin.
