Default Expansion Packs

I am using an older version of EQ, Ruins of Kunark... Can I still play? When I run the emulator it says that the game is going to crash because it thinks I have the expansions but they are not there, and then it crashes and tells me I need to run the patch server again. I guess my question is how do I tell it that I don't have anything but the Ruins of Kunark?

I apologize for my newbieness...

I'm a little confused. When is it crashing? And what gives you the impression that it believes you have all of the expansions? If you mean from the server select screen, that's because there's no SOE database for it to look at to see what's registered. You shouldn't need to worry about that. On the emulator, EVERYTHING is available (providing you have it).

With that in mind, the emulator does not verify you have the zone before zoning your character (which I believe EQLive does). So, say you accidentally zoned into Bazaar but you don't even have Luclin. Your character (on the emulator) will still end up in Bazaar but the client will then crash telling you that the zone file could not be found.

You only provided a handful of information and I'm sure anyone who could help you would ask you to give a little more information about your situation/problem. For instance:

How far can you get into the Emulator? Server Select? Character Creation Screen? Can you create a character and appear in Cabilis?

When exactly is the client crashing?

If you can create a character and you actually load into the world, I can't see why you couldn't play with only Kunark. And when you say only the RoK expansion do you mean literally Kunark Only, or the Original EQ/Kunark bundle that was once available? (I can't remember if the old Kunark expansion actually had all the old world zones or not. I didn't this so, so I'll assume it doesn't).

If Kunark only, that certainly limits quite a number of things, like playing on someone else's server, you could only create an Iksar race character. If you're playing on your own server, you'd need to edit your database to have other playable races starting in Kunark. That brings up a ton of additional issues. Faction/Agro? Where can they bank? Where is their GM Trainer? etc. If that were the case, I'd check ebay or someplace where you can probably pick up the original EverQuest for two or three bucks.

You can not play EQ without the original. You can have any combination of expansions but you need the original.

As long as you're patched up to live, no matter what expansions you have you can play in Emu servers. Like mentioned above just don't zone into a zone you don't have.

If you're on a broad band conenction then go into the pather options and check all the expansions (with the exception of Legends) and it should download ALL of the expansion so you can make use of them on any Emu server.

did you patch to live, including running the complete file check 2-3 times?

And dont use the eqemu patcher, just follow the guide on how to change your EQHost and make the shortcut.

Ok well the eqemupatcher was the first problem i guess...

Now I can get to the character creation screen but it crashes entering the world. No error number this time it just asks if I want to send crash info automatically to the server.

Say no to that, request or you will crash the server.

What kind of internet connection do you have?

There is a big issue with people on dial up right now.

Did you run everquest live's patcher with a thorough file check? I suggest doing that. Also, if you could post whether you're connecting to port :5997 (in eqhost.txt) of the eqemu login server, or :5999, that would be helpful. Could you also post what kind of crash happens when you enter the world?

Is it Windows popup, or within the eq client? Does it come from a server that you're running?

Yes I ran thorough file check 2 times. Connecting to port 5997. The crash is within EQ, It does not have an error number. I am connecting to the internet via an RCA cable modem.

Default What I know bout exp

As far as i know all eqmu servers require the original game files to be in your computer. That alows you to play on all the original game zones with no bonus races or zones, ie kunark or van shir, some of the older expansions, up to kunark are stored whether you have them or not, thanks to some old patches. This allows you to go to kunark without expansion, but it limits all models and textures to textures that you already have on your computer, like all the monsters apear as humans with funky names. You can also install the expansions on your computer, without registering them officially and you can still play eqmu just the same.
