A possible bug? Skill Trainer NPC's seem non-working?

Greetings all..
I want to start off saying.. If this isn't a bug, but is just something not coded up yet, well.. sorry for wasting the time.

Anyways..
I've spent the last several days kludging together a win32 server, first from the 0.56 binaries, and then later starting over an' using the latest CVS. I've had the fun of recompiling an' resourcing repeatedly, and most of all of it solely geared towards the idea of managing to make those darn Skill Trainer NPC's actually allow one to train skills with them.

Now.. I'd rather not deluge folks with information about all I have set up, until I'm sure that I'm encountering a bug.. and likely enough, one of my own fault, due to lack of information to know better, or lack of observance on my part.
If anyone can tell me if -normally- skill trainers work properly, if the entire server is setup properly, I'd appreciate it.
And, heck, while we're at it, guards are supposed to attack monsters that get too close to the cities.. right? For my work, they aren't, but I've not considered that all together a 'problem'.

Should this turn out to be a bug, I'll just start typing up the various things I've got and have done. Thanks for the time!

The Guildmaster Trainers should be working. At least they are on all the servers that I've played on.

As for the guards not attacking, that's not a bug. For that you have to manually add them to the factions table. I've never done it before so I'm a little sketchy on the details but all you have to do is set the guards up as an opposing faction to whatever mobs are roaming about. That way, whenever any get too close to a guard (for example, if they're chasing you ), then the guard will look at them and think "Hey! I hate those things!" and go kill it. Of course, that means you'll have to set up factions for all the mobs too. :(

I had that nagging feeling that the guards were based on the factions. Mkay, that makes sense enough, an' tain' really worth the hassle of getting going.

But the guildmaster skilltrainers.. well.. That's a bugger.
Notably, everything else works fine. Things log in okay, char-gen's working, combat, magic, merchants, quests (with perl stuffs) and other normal NPC interaction.. though only due to the Perl stuff being in place. Everything else, as far as I know is working. Then again, I haven't gone into extensive testing of things beyond starter character things.

Time for me to start digging into my files.

As for Zone an' World output both, everything is perfectly normal, no errors reported withen them, no change from before, during, or after I've tried to pester skill-trainers, so hopefully, understandably, I'm not going to post the outputs from those (unless asked to).
Version of EQEmu - "0.57", technically, as built from freshly downloaded CVS of two days ago, with Perl support added in. Compiled on MSVC++6.0 with Service Pack 5.
Database was built, in order, from MW055_alpha1.sql, MW055_alpha_02.sql, add_factions.sql, factionsList.sql, npc_faction_update.sql, npc_types_update.sql, loot_update.sql, and doorupdate-03-15-04.sql. 3.5 hour sourcing time.
This problem was there from my first attempts, before setting up a perl enabled binary, from before using nothing more than the MW055's and doorupdate.. It's persisted all through it.
Not as though I think the OS'll be an impact, but running this lil' thing under WinXP.. I've really run out of options an' methods that I can think of to try an' fix this, as I've seen no mention of it in the forums, and I've tried every lil' trick I could scheme up, especially after forum browsing. [Which is how I managed to get the perl stuff in place.. Kudo's to the tutorials on getting that done! ]
Sooo, if anyone wants to give me a hand with figuring this problem out, I'd love the aid. If any more info is needed, an' in a specific structure, let me know. Heck, if I need to rar up my stuff an' try to send it along, database an' all, I'm already to that point.
