At a guess, they would keep working on the older fix. If you're stupid enough to patch once without a backup EQ Folder, and you're stupid enough to patch twice ... then good luck to ya!
In the past, unless it had been a really long time between releases, the EQEMu was just brought up to a working live state prior to releasing, even if multiple live patches had taken place in that time.

This is part fo the reason the new releases sometimes take so long. The devs work on fixing it and before they finish Sony releases another patch that emsses it up even further so they have to work on that patch. They do this because when they make a release they want everyone to be able to legally patch to that release. If they were compatible with a non live patch then only the ones lucky enough to patch then could play on those servers. People who never patched and could play would no longer be able to.
