Default questions about "the big LAN book"

hi,

i've read your manual, thx a lot for the help.

but i wonder why you descripe how to set up a lan server and you need a router ? i thought this lan server works without being listed at login.eqemu.net and without internet access.

part3 d) make sure the port for your minilogin or publicloing is OPEN on your router

what if i don't want the server to be reachable from the internet ?
and i understood that if i use the minilogin i set up a login server on my computer where only one client (the computer where i set up the minilogin) can connect. but if i use the publiclogin more people can connect (like from my lan). so is it possible to set up the publiclogin without internet access ?

I was just saying to open the ports locally for your lan, if you had some type of firewall - people have some wacked configs If your network works fine without them being open, go for it, it's just if it doesn't connect, you may need them open.

If you just want it from the LAN, dont open the ports. 99% of the people usually want someone from the internet to connect to their server, that is why that is included in there.
