Default "CreateSurface (Primary) Failed!"

THIS IS NOT A QUESTION ABOUT EQW.

I downloaded those three files and eqw, but not sure if eqemu came w/ it or not.

hello, i just downloaded the 3 things posted on your site as well as EQW 2.21 (newest) (fed up w/ eq, playing 5+ hours a day to keep up isn't realistic for me). My problem is that when i try to open EQW, i get the message "CreateSurface (Primary) Failed!" followed by some numbers. in readme it simply says "specify the full path blah blah blah" ( i would need to do this b/c eq is in a diff spot than c:\programfiles\everquest\) which i don't know how to do, and that probably isn't the best solution. This is why i then proceeded to the eqgame.exe method, as posted in the sticky, and i tried running it in MSDOS as well, because i heard it will work from there too. I want to confirm i changed the eqhost.exe file too. When i click on eqgame.exe a small error box comes up saying "please use Everquest.exe", and i don't know where to "click start" and then "click run" as shown in the sticky. Like i said before, i heard somewhere you can use those same lines in MSDOS to get it to execute, but it says "C:\Progra~1" and i need it to change to where my everquest directory is ACTUALLY AT. Please respond with some helpful hints, b/c the emu looks hella fun (CT in gfay).

As mentioned before, set your desktop colors to 16 bit, AND EQ colors to 16 bit. That should take care of "CreateSurface (Primary) Failed!"

The easiest way to setup EQW is put it directly in your everquest directory.

If using eqgame.exe you must run it as "eqgame patchme" you can not just click on the file eqgame.exe The easiest way is to create a shortcut to eqgame. Then edit the shortcut.
"c:\...eqgame.exe" Change to "c:\...eqgame.exe patchme"

Default well

if you do not know how to set your everquest settings then it is most likely already at 16bit. See i have analized eqw. and i have noticed that your everquest settings and yoru desktop must be the same. weather or not its 16 or 32 it will still work. if you set it to 16 and our desktop to 16 then the whole thing should run good. no problems at all. but if you set your comptuer to 32 and forget to set everquest to 32 it wont work and visa versa also note that if you set then both to 32 then untill you are in the real game walking around the words will be hard to read. you just have to guess your way through them. ( which isnt hard just hit enter till you get to loging then loging and then when you get to your server hit enter) NOTE: to change your eq settings its in an ini file on your computer in the everquest directory ( I think the file is caled EQClient.ini or client.ini ) one of them I hope this helps you out have fun

Ok i checked out .ini file / comp file for color settings. Computer is set at 16 bit , high colors, NOT 16 colors. EQ is set for high colors as well and it says something like "bitsperpixel: 16". My guess is that these are both on high colors, and i have no problem changing my desktop, however when i go to change the ini file i notice that a) bits per pixel is different than amt. of colors and b) scrolling further down there are all kinds of wierd color values, so i still gotta fix this. Again i apologize for my amateur question but i don't know that much. thanks! wanna get this running so i can mess around in places like vex thal.
