Default EverQuest Legends... What do you think?

If you haven't heard the news, EverQuest is opening a $40/Month premium server. You can find the Verant advert/site for it at...

http://legends.everquest.station.sony.com

I personally think this is a sign that Verant is not the company it used to be. I remember when Verant was a small company trying to make EverQuest the best game it could be... Now, with the news of this new service, I feel that Verant has moved away from the improving EverQuest aspect and has gone towards the profit aspect. I feel that they should have made these changes to all servers, instead of creating a new exclusive server with these changes.

What do you think?

I'll be honest I like the idea but I am not going to pay $40 for it. I'll just wait for the emu to get to a playing point (npc movement, ai, etc...) and make my own.

It's a nice idea, but apparently their forgetting the rest of the people that already pay money every month. I've played since last August and have never seen any live quests or gm events on my server except the halloween events. I guess the chance of seeing another now is even less. Great job on the emu!

Kind of a joke to me... The Emu (in the near future) could allow for nearly all of these 'special' services at a much lower price - free.

What does this mean for Star Wars Galaxies? If this service goes over well will the-big-V be able to resist the urge to make it mandatory?

Anyone here every play Gemstone 3? Same exact thing essentially. Just in Gemstone 3 it meant 24/7 support (not just "When a GM feels like it"), additional little areas (not entire zones/servers), etc. I have a feeling this extra service is basically a shoddy "Prefered Customer" program they want to try and edge in, but the problem there is your prefered program should never appear to shun your regular customers (Verant does that well enough without it).

Ah well, Emulator is coming along nicely, so they can go smoke their bongs for a bit longer and hope they don't suck.

OH MY GOD I'm glad I quit playing EverCrack...I pity the poor souls who would go for that gimmick.

Default Please Hurry!

All I can say is ...... Please hurry with the next release of the Emu...

I am one of these fools that has continued to play even though I crash to server select screen every zone.. I have posted to the support forums many times and actually got a reply from them telling me that it was my virus protection or my firewall that was causing the problem... of which I have neither installed..

Now I know what they have been doing instead of resolving my issues er.. wait... their issues..

Just let me know what I can do to help.. wash your car, do your laundry, walk the dog, take out the trash.. anything

Haha, the legends thing is so silly it'd make a good joke.

What I would pay $100/month for: My own 'private' EverQuest server, where only people who I allow on (who all have their own normal cost EQ subscriptions) could play. But I don't expect them to do that, which is why I have hopes for EQEmu =)

I can't believe they consider '2400-2500' ideal.
I played back when that was normal (perhaps peaking at 2700), and it was crowded.

I preferred playing at night when it was more like 1500 people. 1500 is reasonable. Enough to group, but still a world where you can hunt things without finding them all camped.

I still wouldn't pay $40/month for that. Maybe $20/month.

They'd need to reduce the exp times though too..

Those look like some cool features, but what a cock of shit. For an added 30 dollars you get some cool features, and customer service thats available more than 3 hours a day. Origionally i was under the impression that cool events like that were supposed to take place across all servers more than twice a year. Guess not, and now you prolly wont see that twice a year unless its some server wide thing like the halloween events. Its also pretty funny how the ideal player # for a server has changed so drastically since release. Origionally 1400 was very crowded, and was thought to be the max they wanted on any server. Eventually this moved up to around 1800, and then 2k+. Guess they wanna get the most dough outa those servers, because who would want a server where you can find things uncamped, when you could make more money with a server stuffed full of people. The other thing is, since you can movelog up to 8 of your charicters to this server, does it seem to anyone else like this server will probably only be made up of high 50s/60s and their uber twinks? People that wanna be able to get ToV/sleepers and whatnot to themselves, but instead since they are the only ones who play enough to realy take justify paying that much it will be crowded with them. Oh well. It seems like a cool service, but it pisses me off that you have to fork over 40$ a month for it.

In Verant's defense on this matter, there have been three expansions released since they considered 1400 as crowded.

If you put a gallon of water in a pail, it will be deep. If you put a gallon of water in a bathtub, it will be shallow - with plenty of room for another gallon.

Default Money is power

This is what I've always thought EQ should be.

The one major problem with EQ is that the world is too static, nothing ever changes, the interface needs to improve (they still have not fixed the spellbook so it's not a 640x480 window.. people run games in higher resolutions now!)

The Guides are cool (they are people like you and me) but the GM's are assholes.

So what they are saying: We have made EQ better, added all the features you wanted, but you have to pay for it. A LOT.

$40 is more than my cablemodem service costs.

Bah. They have a large userbase, and pull this kind of nonsense to make more money because they know there's at least that many people that will pay for it.

I've been playing EQ for a few months now. I mean, it is a fun game. $10/mo is doable. But, from looking at other games such as The Dark Ages of Camelot, whew, that game looks kickass.

Eventually, people will move to these other games, because they look better and have better support. EQ was the first on the scene with 3D graphics and such, but as we all know, that only takes you so far. I mean, look what happened to 3DFX.

And yea, if I was rich, I'd pay $40/mo to check it out. But it's really crappy because a lot of people can't pay that. They're sending a message with this: Money is power.

If they wanted more people to join the server, they should have added in that you don't lose xp and you don't have to get your corpse Could have some fun with the first time item find stuff though... Smakdatazz's Sword of Battle

We all know the saying though... a fool and his money...

Default emulate

/me wonders how much of the new code will be server emulatable...that map thing looks interesting.

Still sounds like a bad idea for verant though, IMO.
