We are considering taking on a couple more developers.
We have a massive database and content available for every possible zone on titanium. We just need more hands to release it all.
Jest 3 is a custom server, in that we do not follow the rules of EQ Live very closely. What we try to do is improve on what we feel were game play mistakes that SoE made. An example: PoP flags=bad. We're releasing PoP zones blended into the world like any other instead, as 1-2 group raid zones and farming zones. None of the flag crap here.
Anyway, we're looking for some more developers, because we want to really move forward content-wise. We already have one of (if not the) largest databases of any emu server (over 2.5 million records NOT counting character data), so we're looking to expand our developer team so that we can release zones and other new content faster.
So, here is the pitch:
I am wondering if there is anyone out there that is
a) TRUSTWORTHY
b) CAPABLE (you already have dev experience on the emu OR can convince me that you are able and willing to learn)
c) MOTIVATED
d) ARTISTIC
e) DEPENDABLE
f) Have some understanding of at least ONE of: PERL, C++ and especially MYSQL.
...that might want a developer role here?
This can take many forms. You can do one or more of the following:
1) Write and test quests
2) Help debug code if you know C++ and Perl (and mysql).
3) Help design and develop content (zones, items, etc.)
4) Help "beautify" the world and customize it.
5) Tweak mobs, items, classes, etc. in our continuing attempt to rebalnce everything on this server for solo play and 1-2 group raiding (1 group mostly).
If interested, please hop onto our server and talk to Keelyeh (OR go to our forums at
www.jestemulator.net and PM me) with a detailed description of yourself, what you are interested in doing, and most importantly, why I should think you are trustworthy, capable, motivated, artistic and dependable.
Trust me when I say, working on this emu and watching it come alive with your ideas is an incredible experience, and you will learn SO MUCH about the internal workings of a client server program (not just games). This is am amazing and fun way to really get into the guts of computing and game development.
Working on an EMU is better than any classes you could take to learn this stuff, because, frankly, it's fun as hell. But it IS hard work, and if you just want access in order to be a "God" on this server, do not apply. Do not waste my time or anyone else's. SO MUCH WORK has been put into this server, it's been a labor of love from the start. Please, don't screw us over.
Thank you.
Jest 3 supports and runs exclusively on LINUX (Fedora to be exact)... simply because it's better.
