Default Problem logging in

Ive set up my server on the same laptop that I will run the client on. (I was told it was possible). I got the command line window that says 0 servers,0 clients, but when i try to log into the game, I get a blank server select screen, and then the command window shows "40313 New client from ip:192.168.0.2 port: 51394". Ive been searching on these forums for the last 2 hours and cant seem to find the right combination of words to use in the search feature to get something that will at least point me in the right direction. Perhaps im too sleepy and completely overlooking it. I know how any questions are very frowned upon in this community and I only ask them when im at the end of my rope.

Thanks in advance

Check that your "minilogin_ip" is correct in the "account" table for the database. In your case it should be "192.168.0.2" (you made an account right?).

Ive searched "page 42", "how long for world to load", "world to load", "long for world", and still cant find it...

On page 42 of the guide it says to "press enter to start world". When I do that another window pops up and goes away within a split second, too fast for me to see what it says (something about .exe). After that goes away im left with the start window again. If I press enter again it goes away. All this time the Server command window says the same thing (0 servers, 0clients). My question is am I waiting long enough for the world to load? Or have I screwed up something in an earlier step?

Another question is: How do I uninstall the server. If I did screw up an earlier step then remaking the server may be easier than trying to find the error on this one.

Thank you.

If you use emu.bat to start the server, it will open two windows in addition to your Minilogin window. One is the command window and the other is world.exe.

In the command window, it will tell you to let world load completely with the "Press Enter When Done" message. If you watch the world.exe window, you'll see it loading a bunch of stuff, then finally connecting to Minilogin.

Once it's done loading and connected, you can hit enter in the command window and eqlaunch will run and boot your zones.

So you are giving me a solution that sounds like the problem im trying to explain? thats helpful. lol. Like I said, 2 windows do come up, but one closes so fast that I barely see that its there. If I blinked I wouldnt see it at all. I also let the window that says "servers 0, clients 0" open for over 4 hours earlier and still nothing had happened within that time. At this point im just going to try and start over from the beginning again, but I dont know how to uninstall the first server (I dont want to have a bunch of broken servers cluttering up my hard drive. lol). Ill try to not ask anymore questions here, since I cant get any useful help, which is probably my fault since I dont even know how to convey the problem correctly (judging by the whole 3 answers i have gotten anyway. lol). Anyway, im off to try to muddle through this as best I can. Wish me luck : )

Still doing the same thing after 3 try's. 2 windows are supposed to pop up, one says to wait for world to load, other one opens and closes so fast that you would miss it if you blinked. Has done this on all my attempts. So I dont know what to do anymore. Cant find anything in the forums that covers this or on the wiki. Can anyone please help or at least point me in the right direction?? Thank you.

What version do you have, and what are you clicking on to start the server ?

BTW, there is no uninstallation of the server, just delete world.exe, zone.exe and EmShareMem.dll and replace them with the newer versions. Of course the database is a different issue.

I hate to say anything cause it always comes back and bites me right in the ass
But I'll say it anyways; You need to aquire a little understanding on what you are doing; What does MySql mean? Perl? what is a batch file?
When I started I knew a bit of Perl but nothing of MySql or any other SQL for that matter, other than it was a database.
These things are very simple to learn (hell, I learned it!), and I suggest anyone starting in EqEmu, become familiarized with it all first.
You can break down EqEmu into three areas:
the source (executables, or emulator), MySql (EqEmu will NOT work without it), and Perl (for all the quests, what npc's say, etc.)
The "start.bat" file is just a DOS command-line script for running all the emulator executables.

Ok, so unless I understand what these things are, then following the guide wont work at all? Ill start reading up on it over the net. Im sure ill be able to find something out there.

I wish that I didnt have to make a server at all. I would be more than happy to just play on someone elses if I could. The problem with it is that I dont want to switch to anniversary. There is only one reason that I came to eqemu and that is that it has the old, un-revamped zones. I read on the forums that you guys will be switching at some point and so im a little anxious about getting this up and running on my lan.

Anyway, thank you all for the help.

Make a file called emu.bat in the main emu directory and paste in the following. Then, double click it. It will make launching your server much easier.

Code:
@echo off

start world.exe
cls
echo Wait for World to finish loading... Press Enter when done.
pause
start eqlaunch.exe zone
exit

That is the same thing that I have already, same exact wording and all. Its just that mine is named Start.bat and yours is named emu.bat. I followed what it said in the guide, on page 22. So that likely isnt the problem, since I went ahead and did what you said to do anyway and it did the same exact thing. Also, since reading Angelox's post I tried running the .exe's on their own, and they pop up a cmd type window and then close within a blink of an eye. Is there something wrong with the emu files that I should try to fix? Also, Im on the Vista operating system, with the files in the C:/ directory. Do you think Vista could be blocking them from running?

You're using the newest executables , but your database may be older - look at the log and find the update required for those executables.
where did you get your database from and what version is it?
