Default Status of the source code?

I'm just curious if the stability of the source code has changed any in the last 6 months or so. I don't mean are the servers stable, but I was trying to contribute some things a while back (5-6 months ago) and not being an official dev and having to download the source code every week and reapply whatever I had been working on was more annoying than I was willing to put up with.

I guess server stablity is also a question, if the servers are stable now and I can stick with one 'official' version that behaves well and use it for a while at a time then that's great also.

I understand that the emulator is and always will be a work in progress, but the changes being made back when I was trying to contribute were just too much for me to work with. I'd really like to start contributing again and was wondering if we're looking any better as far as sweeping source-code changes on a weekly basis are concerned.
