Game does not start

Apologies for falling at the first hurdle, and have read the FAQ but when i start the starteq.bat file i see the command box open / close but then nothing happens.

I am running Windows 7, have the security turned off but am running the .bat file as administrator and in Windows xp compatible mode just to make sure.

The event log view is reporting the following when i run the starteq.bat file..
