Default I need help editing the eqhost

I can not modify the original version so that I can get into the free servers because the txt file cant be saved. I have clicked the button that switches it from a read only file and whenever I try I get access denied. I tried deleting the file and creating a new one to no avail any help would be great.

if it is windows 7 or vista you need to right click the eqhost.txt and select open as admin, then modify the file and click save and it should work.

Windows XP, Vista, and 7 all have the possible problem of permissions/ownerships being messed up though I've never had it happen to me in XP. Microsoft doesn't acknowledge this as a "bug" that needs fixing and says it affects only a few users.

On the three Win7 systems I have I've experienced the probem within 3 days of startup. THere is no "fix" that I can find other than turning UAC control all the way to the bottom (basically going back to a single user system).

Microsoft apparently doesn't know how to do multi-user systems despite *nix and others figuring it out many decades ago.

Because it isn't a bug. This is an explanation of what happens and why: http://windowsteamblog.com/windows/b...direction.aspx

The short answer is, if you are installing something, like EQ, that wasn't written with these restrictions in mind, just don't install it under program files and you'll be much happier.
