Default Other types of pets?

EQ has pets for the four "classical" elements: earth, air, fire, and water. It also has a pet for enchanters, and a (crappy) one for clerics. Since we control both the code and the database, however, I don't see anything limiting us to only those kinds, and I wonder if this might make EQEmu more fun, since people will be able to explore new playing strategies. Below I have two examples of what I have in mind.

Example #1: Might & Magic series

I just finished Might and Magic IX, and in that game system there are four kinds of magic: Light, Dark, Elemental, and Spirit. EQ has elemental covered, but I've been thinking. What would a Spirit magic pet be like, or a Dark magic one? What classes might use such pets?

Example #2: Wizards & Warriors

This is a neat little game. If you haven't played it, I suggest you pick it up. It's really cheap; I got mine at Comp USA for $15. In this game there are six types of magic: Sun, Moon, Vine, Spirit, Stone, and Fiend. It's a different slant, but the idea is that there are far more possibilities than mere elemental magic.

I don't know how easy or hard it would be to do this, but I'm thinking that it can't be THAT hard to create custom spells or items that spawn different kinds of pets. I can't speak as to the server code, however, as I'm not familiar with it.

Thoughts?

Problem is that the model needs to be global (The client AND the server have to have the same spells_en.txt to properly cast the spell)

its a text file, so I don't see why it couldn't be released. (if you could do an eqfix, a text file is not really a question )

Globals---------------------

Kind've old but i'm guessing if they didn't change the client around so bad that it won't work anymore. If you were planning to make it for your server, you could make two downloads.

A program that changes the hex info of the zone (which ever you used for the pets) and the spell file.

as for models to use, good luck. EQ never really went out of the bounds but to stick to what they need.

Though,
You could have nymph pets lol... little faeries

Frogloks are global. Do you honestly need anything other than Froglok pets?

Or, you could make it so some spells are restricted to certain zones. I don't know if thats possible.

I.e:
Make a spider pet, and if its not a spider model, it'll kill itself and a message will be said:

Spider Pet vanishes as mystical enegry rapes it to death.

Oooh. Maybe a Dark Magic pet steals the life force from a monster in the current zone and makes it your minion! :p

Nope. As long as they cast spells and do the lil backflip, no other pets are needed.
