Default Eqgfx_dx8.dll..'Tis infamous..

Ok, weird problem: I play EQ (any version, emulator or regular) on the lowest possible screen size setting. If I make an attempt to play at 800x600 or higher, when I click to go to the loading screen I get "An error has occured in 'Eqgfx_dx8.dll'"...this has always happened. Recently, however, it started giving me that error when I try to play on the lowest possible setting! Only occasionally, sometimes it works just fine, sometimes I get the error. I didn't do something new or anything different. In fact, I've been playing on the regular servers instead recently, not the emulator. I tried changing around my computer's settings to 16 bit and 32 bit, and back again, I've restarted my computer many times (out of habit...when something goes wrong, REBOOT!), and deleted and redownloaded my Eqgfx_dx8.dll file.

I doubt anyone else has this problem, being that I have come to the conclusion that I am the only person on Earth with a Savage IX video card. (and I'm guessing that itself is my problem...besides, laptops and EverQuest don't mix very well)
But help is always much appreciated! Thank you very much.

Well your not the only one with this problem. I have the exact same thing going on, quite frustrating. I load Eqwindows up and run EQ from their. I log on using this login name and it goes to the server screen. Then when I try to enter a server, it crashes with that same error (the 'Eqgfx_dx8.dll' has a fault or something like that). It just started doing this, I have the resolution set on 800x600. I have a celron 333 (<---bunch a junk ) with 192 Megs. I only have the original EQ and Ruins of Kunark installed. I have a different video card then Haunted07 though. Its a RAGE PRO TURBO AGP2x. It crashes when I load the Eqemu servers and the regular EQ servers. Some help on this would be GREATLY appreciated

And another thing off of this subject, yet along similar lines is this: When I first got everything I needed to play off other ppl's servers (Eqhost.txt, Eqwindows, and login name/pw from here) I would try to enter a server and it would say, You dont have the expansions installed that are currently enabled on this account, this may be because you moved the files or deleted them..blah...blah...blah, and then I could enter the server after their little warning box (this is because I only have the original EQ and RoK installed as I stated earlier) and the character screen would come up. Everything worked fine up til then, but when I would click on one of my characters and then enter world it would crash to my desktop.

Any help with BOTH of these would be great
Oh and props to the whole team here, you guys are awesome and so is all of your hard work, keep it up.

Yea, things had worked fine until just like, two days ago about. The exact error message, if it helps, is this:

EQGAME caused an invalid page fault in
module EQGFX_DX8.DLL at 015f:01a7be48.

heh, I keep replying to my own posts
anyway......

Their are two eqgfx.dx*.dll files in your EQ directory. One is eqgfx.dx7.dll, and one is eqgfx.dx8.dll. Not sure what these mean, but had a hunch that it had to do with the DirectX version you had on your machine, could be wrong, just a hunch
And if this is the case, perhaps it has something to do with the version. I have Direct X9.0 at the moment (the latest as far as I know) it dosnt make sense that this would effect it in a negative way, but I'm just trying to throw out something that might point to a solution.

It is looking to me like a driver problem..
ATI's older drivers are virtually nonexistant, and I had a savage4 card and couldn't find drivers for it..

Did it work at one time, or has it never worked?

Default try this Gerald

Gerald, bring the resolution for your voodoo card down, thats what I did (although I have a different video card) and it seemed to fix the problem. I brought the resolution from 32BPP to 16BPP and it was all good after that.

I used to have the problem with my other computer. It's a voodoo 3 3000 AGP. The problem comes when you use windows default drivers. So I recommend that you go to www.3dfx.com and download some thrid party drivers.
